Smith captures medalist honors, Wolfpack finish third

MERIDIAN – Zachary Smith shot a two-day total of 141 (69-72) to capture medalist honors at the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) Event #4 held at Northwood Country Club in Meridian. Smith, a sophomore from Madison, was the leader after the first round. He finished one shot ahead of Meridian's Mitchell Fifer and two shots ahead Jacob Berry, also from Meridian.

"It's obvious that Zach's hard work on his putting is paying dividends," said Co-Lin golf coach Ronny Ross. "Zach has always been able to hit the ball, I'm looking for good things in future tournaments."

The Wolfpack finished third in the tournament at 603 behind Mississippi Gulf Coast and Meridian who were tied at 579 at the end of regulation. Gulf Coast, who started the day five strokes behind the host Eagles, got the win on the fourth playoff hole. Rounding out the team results was East Central at 617, Itawamba at 622, Meridian (B) at 625, Hinds at 636, and East Mississippi at 677.

Individually for Co-Lin behind Smith were Matthew Scoville at 151, Lucas Brewer at 153, Cameron Little at 158, and Bragg Eplin at 176.

The Wolfpack return to action on March 31 at the MACJC Event #5 hosted by Itawamba Community College at Riverbirch Golf Club in Amory.
