Wolves start 2019-2020 strong with third-place finish

RAYMOND, Miss. - The Copiah-Lincoln Community College Wolves had a strong outing to open the 2019-2020 season with a third-place finish in at Eagle Ridge Golf Course. The team, which received votes in the national preseason poll, was in a good position after the opening round 299. The score put the Wolves in second place behind No. 2 nationally-ranked Mississippi Gulf Coast who carded a 291. The 299 was led by Co-Lin's Adam Files and Garrett Herring. The duo both shot even-par 72s to open the season, which was tied for the third-best round of the day. Nick Davis was tied for 14th after the opening round with a 77, while Logan Pitts was knotted with two other players in 18th place with a 78. Bryson Jones finished with a 79, while Jacob Lammey carded an 86.

The impressive team play put the Wolves in second place going into the final round, seven strokes ahead of No. 7 Meridian.

The second round saw some woes as Co-Lin posted a 312 for a two-day total of 611. Meridian fired a 303 to secure the second-place spot, while Gulf Coast hung on for the win with a 297. Files and Herring once again mirrored each other with a 77 on day two. The five-over round gave the pair two-day totals of 149, which was tied for fourth and landed them All-Tournament honors.

Davis posted a 79 on the second day for a two-day total of 156, which tied for 19th overall, while Jones carded another 79, which gave him a 158. Pitts finished the second round with an 84 for a two-day 162, while Lamney matched his opening round with an 86 for a 172.

"It was fun to be in the mix and have a chance to win in the first tournament of the year," said Co-Lin head coach Craig Hennington. "Gulf Coast and Meridian are tough every year and set the bar high so the team was a little disappointed in Sunday's round, but Garrett and Adam played well and both made All-Tournament. I'm looking for improvement in our team in the second tournament this year at Itawamba."

The Wolves are back on the course on Friday, October 4 and Saturday, October 5 as the team travels to Amory to play at Riverbirch Golf Course for the second event of the year.
