Wolves finish third in season preview

CANTON, Miss. - The Copiah-Lincoln Community College golf team teed off the 2020 athletic seasons with a third-place finish in the NJCAA District D Preview on Monday at Deerfield Golf Course in Canton. Co-Lin finished with a 330 total as the event featured only one round. Mississippi Gulf Coast won the preview with a 302, while Northeast posted a 313 for a second-place finish. Co-Lin was followed by Hinds who shot 334, Meridian carded a 336, and Itawamba and Southwest rounded out the event, both shooting 337.

"It was a very windy day, and they moved us up a tee box, but I think all of our guys would agree that we should have done better in this event," said first-year head Co-Lin golf coach Allen Kent. "We are a young team so maybe we can credit this to first-time jitters, but we've got to play much better than this to compete. We will continue to work on playing smart and being mentally tough, and we're excited about our first true MACCC event next week in Corinth."

Landon Nobles was Co-Lin's low scorer as he posted a six-over, 78, which was good for a top-10 individual finish. Nick Davis finished in the top-20 as he shot a nine-over, 81. Ty Nelson finished 11 over par, Ty Brewer and Jordan Davis posted an 88, Seth Beall shot a 90, and Reese Dehart carded a 92.

Despite the event only serving as a preview, it officially kicks off the fall athletic seasons for Co-Lin. The Wolves head to Shiloh Ridge in Corinth next Monday, September 28, and Tuesday, September 29 for MACCC Event #1.
