Co-Lin finishes 6th in first MACCC Event

CORINTH, Miss. - The Copiah-Lincoln Community College Wolves had a tough couple of days on the links as the Shiloh Ridge golf course challenged the players with many tests. Bismal on the opening day did not help as conditions were challenging throughout the round. Northeast, the home team at the event, took home first place with an impressive one-under par team score of 575, a solid 18 strokes ahead of the next finisher. Gulf Coast finished second after carding a 593, while Meridian was third with a 597. Itawamba finished in fourth place after posting a 622, and Hinds was fifth with 629. Southwest rounded out the field with a 664.

"We were just one stroke out of fifth and 8 strokes out of fourth place in this event," said Co-Lin head coach Allen Kent. "Our guys are young, and it showed this week. Hopefully, the nerves will be better after this and we can learn from our mistakes."

Nick Davis and Reese Dehart led the team for Co-Lin as both players posted 156s through two rounds. Davis shot Co-Lin's lowest round of the event with a 74 on the opening day. Landon Nobles was just one stroke back with a 157, while Ty Brewer posted a 162. Jordan Davis closed out Co-Lin's team score with a 165. Ty Nelson played as an individual in the event and carded a 162, while Seth Beall, also an indivial, posted a 163.

"This course was nice, tight in places, but fair. If you hit a bad tee shot, it punished you though," said Kent. "We just dug some holes for ourselves that we couldn't get out of. We are looking for a better showing this weekend at Eagle Ridge."

Co-Lin is back for the second MACCC Event of the year next weekend, Oct. 3 and 4 at Eagle Ridge Golf Course in Raymond.
