Wolves Finish with A Draw in Season Opener

MEMPHIS – The Co-Lin Men's Soccer team kicked off their season facing off against East Central College on Friday, August 25. The Wolves and Falcons finished with a 1-1 draw in the match.

"This was a tough physical battle in the heat," stated Co-Lin head coach Tom Cosgrave. "Both teams really struggled to get any rhythm going in the first half."

The Wolves scored first late in the first half as Sebastian Narvaez (Brandon) blasted a free kick past the Falcons goalie in the 40th minute to take a 1-0 lead that held through halftime.

The Wolves maintained their lead and looked to add to it in the second half but could not find the back of the net. The Falcons tied the game with a goal in the 89th minute, and then kept the Wolves from regaining the lead despite having scoring opportunities before the end of the match.

"We played well in spurts, but you could definitely tell that it was our first game of the season," added Cosgrave. "It was a cruel way to end the game by conceding a goal in the final minute, but hopefully we will learn from that moment going forward in the season."

Leo Summers (Cornwall, England) allowed one goal with two saves on three shots on goal throughout the match.

Co-Lin is now 0-0-1 overall and returns to action on the road in St. Louis, Missouri to face off against St. Charles Community College on Friday, September 1 at 5 p.m.
