Lally’s Hat Trick Leads Wolves to First Win

WESSON – The Co-Lin Men's Soccer team had their home opener on Friday, September 22, hosting East Mississippi in MACCC play. The Wolves beat the Lions, 7-1, to earn their first win of the season.

The Wolves got the scoring started early as Alfie Lally (Manchester, England) found the back of the net in the ninth minute with an assist from Francisco Miquel (Bogota, Colombia). Lally then added his second goal in as many minutes, this time from a penalty kick, to increase the Wolves lead to 2-0.

The lone goal for the Lions came in the 24th minute cutting the lead down to 2-1. However, the Wolves defense shut out the Lions for the remainder of the half to maintain the 2-1 lead at halftime.

The second half of the match decidedly belonged to the Wolves as they scored five goals and held the Lions to no shots. Miquel got the scoring started early in the half as he beat the Lions keeper with an assist from Caden McCullough (Byram) in the 48th minute making the score, 3-1. Lally then added to his total in the match by factoring in the next two goals for the Wolves, first with an assist on a goal by Holloway Willsey (Starkville) in the 57th minute and then scoring a goal in the 62nd minute for his hat trick.

McCullough then got his second assist of the match as Symon Stringer (Pelahatchie) beat the Lions keeper in the 70th minute while the final goal came in the 77th minute as Michael Turner (Ridgeland) found the back of the net with an assist from Sebastian Narvaez (Brandon) making the score, 7-1.

The Wolves then held the Lions scoreless and shotless throughout the remainder of the half to secure the victory.

Leo Summers (Cornwall) saved one of two shots faced on goal throughout the match while playing almost 74 minutes. Brennan Thomas (Gallman) finished out the match for the Wolves facing no shots.

Co-Lin returns to action facing off against No. 5 Jones on Tuesday, September 26. The action on the pitch between the Wolves and Bobcats kicks off at 7 p.m., in Ellisville.
