WESSON – The Co-Lin Men's Soccer team took to the road to face off against Northwest in a neutral site contest for their 2024 season opener. The Wolves used a solid offensive output in a 4-1 victory over the Rangers.
"This was a great way to start the season," stated Co-Lin head coach Tom Cosgrave. "We got to see a lot of different players play a lot of minutes during this match."
The Wolves wasted no time in starting the scoring as Francisco Miquel (Bogota, Colombia) found the back of the net in the fourth minute with an assist Javion Roberts (Jackson) making the score, 1-0. Alvaro De La Torre (A Coruna, Spain) then added the second goal of the match for the Wolves with an assist Robin Feliciano (Carthage) in the 44th minute to give the Wolves a two-goal edge and that lead held throughout the remainder of play in the first half.
The Rangers added a goal to cut the deficit down to one, but the Wolves regained a two-goal lead as Braxton Williams (Flowood) beat the keeper with an assist from Sebastian Narvaez (Brandon) in the 73rd minute making the score, 3-1. The final goal for the Wolves came in the 88th minute as Matthew Barone (Florence) put the ball into the back of the net with an assist from Simon Stringer (Pelahatchie) to secure the 4-1 final score.
"Having four different goal scorers in this match proves how deep we are this season with the talent we have," added Cosgrave. "We created a lot of chances from different situations which was very pleasing to see."
Co-Lin is now 1-0-0 overall on the season and will return to action on the road against Jefferson College on Wednesday, September 4. The action on the pitch will kickoff at 3 p.m.
"Now we need to build off this momentum and get ready for a tough road trip to Missouri next week," stated Cosgrave.
