Wolves Tie Bulldogs

WESSON – The Co-Lin Men's Soccer team returned to MACCC play hosting Gulf Coast on Tuesday, September 24. The Wolves ad No. 5 Bulldogs ended the match in a 2-2 tie.

"It was good to get a point against a very strong side, but it feels like we dropped two points considering how the game went," stated Co-Lin head coach Tom Cosgrave.

The Wolves got off to a quick start as they scored the first goal in the fourth minute of the match when Francisco Miquel (Bogota, Colombia) beat the Bulldogs keeper with an assist from Finley Sugg (Southampton, England). The Wolves held the 1-0 lead for ten minutes until the Bulldogs scored a tying goal in the 14th minute making the score, 1-1. Despite scoring chances from both sides throughout the remainder of the first half the score remained locked at 1-1 at halftime.

The Wolves then regained the lead as Yohan Bedoya (Bogota, Colombia) blasted a ball past the Bulldogs keeper with an assist from Braxton Williams (Flowood) in the 67th minute giving the Wolves a 2-1 lead. The Wolves looked to secure the upset over the Bulldogs as they held the lead late into the match, but the Bulldogs found an equalizing goal in the 85th minute of the match making the score, 2-2. Neither team could find a late go-ahead goal as the match ended in a tie.

Wolves goalkeeper Jaime Duran (Madison) saved eight of ten shots on goal faced throughout the match.

"We asked lots of questions of them going forward, which was great to see, but we gave away two easy goals that are plays we have to improve on," added Cosgrave. "Showing that we can go toe-to-toe with one of the top five teams in the country shows how talented this team really is."

Co-Lin is now 4-1-1 overall, 1-1-1 in MACCC play, and will return to action hosting Itawamba on Friday, September 27. The Indians and Wolves will kick off the action on the pitch at 3 p.m., at Stone Stadium in Wesson.
