Wolves Blitz Warriors on Sophomore Day

Wesson – The Co-Lin Men's Soccer team celebrated Sophomore Day by hosting East Central on Friday, October 11. The Wolves used an offensive barrage en route to a 5-1 win over the Warriors.

"I thought that we played some really good soccer at times," stated Co-Lin head coach Tom Cosgrave. "The combinations going forward looked very threatening and fluid."

The Wolves got the scoring started early in the first half as Conner Turner (Brandon) beat the keeper with a header off a corner kick by Yohan Bedoya (Bogota, Colombia) in the 16th minute. Just two minutes later, Francicso Miquel (Bogota, Colombia) beat the Warriors keeper with an assist from Alvaro De La Torre (A Coruna, Spain) to extend the lead to 2-0. That score held throughout the remainder of the first half as the Wolves held the Warriors to just two shots on goal.

The Wolves then came out in the second half and got their scoring started early as De La Torre got on the scoring side of the action with an assist from Bedoya in the 51st minute to extend the lead to 3-0. The Warriors then scored a goal in 65th minute to cut the lead down to 3-1. However, the Wolves wasted little time with a response as De La Torre got a brace for the match with his second goal, this time assisted by Miquel in the 69th minute. Just two minutes later, Miquel got his brace with an unassisted goal in the 71st minute to make the lead 5-1. The Wolves continued to look for scoring chances to increase their lead while holding the Warriors to one shot on goal over the final 19 minutes of play to secure the victory.

Jaime Duran (Madison) saved both shots on goal faced in the first half while Brennan Thomas (Gallman) saved one of two shots on goal faced in the second half allowing one goal.

"I was disappointed that we didn't keep a clean sheet, but it was nice to get a few goals on the scoreboard," added Cosgrave.

Co-Lin is now 6-2-2 overall, 3-2-2 in conference play, and will return to action on the road against Holmes on Tuesday, October 15. Kickoff between the Wolves and the Bulldogs is set for 3 p.m., at the Ridgeland campus of Holmes.
