MERIDIAN – The Co-Lin Men's Soccer team resumed MACCC play with a road match against Meridian on Tuesday, October 22. The Eagles beat the Wolves, 2-0.
"I thought we played well defensively during the match, but gave away two cheap goals," stated Co-Lin head coach Tom Cosgrave. "Against good teams we have to stay switched on and focused for the entire 90 minutes of play."
The first half of the match saw solid defense from both units allow limited scoring chances while the goalies for both teams saved all shots on goal leading to the first half ending scoreless. However, the Eagles were able to take advantage of some defensive miscues by the Wolves as they converted a penalty kick in the 51st minute and then added a second goal in the 80th minute to make the score, 2-0. The Wolves continued to battle throughout the second half and had more scoring chances than the first half but could not put the ball past the Eagles keeper as they were able to secure the 2-0 win.
Brennan Thomas (Gallman) got the start in goal for the Wolves and saved six of eight shots on goal faced throughout the match.
Co-Lin is now 6-4-2 overall, 3-4-2 in conference play, and will return to action on the road against Northwest on Friday, October 25. The action on the pitch between the Wolves and the Rangers kicks off at 7 p.m., at the Ranger Soccer Complex in Senatobia.
"We are still in the playoff hunt, so I'm hoping for a good response from the boys Friday going into our regular season finale next week," added Cosgrave.
