Wolfpack netters defeat Jones County

ELLISVILLE - Co-Lin's men's tennis team opened the 2018 season with a 7-2 win over the Jones County Junior College Bobcats. Co-Lin (1-0) will host East Central on Tuesday with matches beginning at 2 p.m.

"The boys got off to a fast start winning two of three doubles, then backed it up with strong singles matches," said tennis coach Brenda Smith. "For the first spring match, they showed no signs of nerves."

Co-Lin's Sebastian Osorio and Juan Pablo Pinilla defeated Noel Monsalve and Daniel Tarious 8-2 at No. 1 doubles and the No. 3 doubles team of Tripp Case and Braden Ishee defeated Cody Courtney and Jed Slover 8-2. The only loss came at No. 2 doubles as JCJC's Erich Fischer and James Estamba defeated Co-Lin's Tripp Wyatt and Sebastian Harrell 8-2.

In singles action, the Wolves only loss came at No. 3 singles as Cody Courtney blanked Co-Lin's Logan Channell 6-0, 6-0. At No. 1 singles, Osorio defeated Tarious 6-1, 6-0 Pinilla took care of Monsalve, and Case defeated Estrada 6-4, 6-2 at No. 4 singles. The most exciting match of the day came at No. 5 singles as Ishee won a hard-fought tie-breaker over Fischer 6-4, 3-6, 11-9. At No. 6 singles, Wyatt picked up the win over Slover 7-6, 6-1.
