Wolves drop two matches in tough weekend

The Wolves of Copiah-Lincoln Community College had a tough weekend as the team fell to Hinds 5-4 and to Meridian 1-8. The losses drop the Wolves to 1-4 on the year. Despite the team losses, there were several positives throughout both matches as the Wolves' No. 1 doubles played well and Co-Lin's Preston Ivy picked up a big, come from behind, tie-breaker win at No. 6 singles against Hinds.

Co-Lin's Jordi Morey and Julian Toloza played No. 1 doubles in both matches. The duo grabbed a win versus Hinds, 8-2, but fell to Meridian, their first loss of the year. Skyler Rasberry and Tyler Leggett paired up at No. 2 against Hinds and dropped the match 8-0 to the Eagles' Berto Le Roux and Chambers Bethea. Against Meridian, John Ready and Samuel Boutwell lined up in the No. 2 slot but fell to Tyler Jefcoat and Dielev Gonzales. Ready and Andrew Hulon took on No. 3 doubles duties versus Hinds in the first match of the weekend, but the pair lost to Bryce Ramsher and Eli Sykes, 8-6, in a tough match. Hulon and Rasberry rounded out the doubles play at No. 3 versus Meridian, but the pairing lost to Corey Jones and Brice Gordon.

Morey played No. 1 singles for the Wolves in both matches over the weekend. The sophomore transfer defeated Hinds' Abraham Gonzalez, 6-1, 7-5, to start the weekend, but fell to Meridian's Matthew Tennant 7-5, 6-2.

Toloza was in the No. 2 slot for both matches this weekend and went 2-0. The freshman trounced Hinds' Le Roux, 6-2, 6-1, before cruizing by Meridian's Gonzales, 6-3, 6-1, picking up the only Co-Lin point versus Meridian.

Rasberry played No. 3 singles on the weekend and fell to Hinds, 6-1, 6-1, and Meridian 6-2, 6-2.

Boutwell played in the No. 4 singles position versus Hinds but fell to the Eagles, 6-2, 6-1. Against Meridian, he played No. 5 and fell to Gordon, 6-2, 6-1.

Ready played No. 5 for the Wolves versus Hinds and No. 4 against Meridian, and dropped both matches.

Ivy played No. 6 singles for Co-Lin in both matches and grabbed a hard-fought win versus Hinds' Tommy Sims, 2-6, 6-4, 13-11. Ivy fell to Meridian's Corey Jones 6-4, 6-3 in the second match on the weekend.

The team is back in action on Wednesday, February 19 as the Wolves travel to Perkinston to face Mississippi Gulf Coast at 1 p.m.
