Tennis Splits Matches with Eagles

RAYMOND – The Co-Lin Men's and Women's Tennis teams hit the road for their next match in MACCC play against Hinds on Tuesday, February 18. The Wolves beat the Eagles, 6-3, while the Lady Wolves fell to the Lady Eagles, 5-4.

In the men's match, the Wolves jumped out to an early 2-1 lead after the doubles pairings with Ege Altas (Istanbul, Turkey) and Jake Bucek (Geelong, Australia) taking the one doubles match at 8-2 while Robert Adcock (Brookhaven) and Simon Cooper (Sumrall) took the third doubles match also at 8-2 with Mason Brand (Mantee) and Tristin Rollins (Brookhaven) dropping the second doubles match in a close 8-5 set.

In the singles matches Altas made quick work on his way to a 6-0,6-1 victory in the one singles match while Brand won four singles at 6-2, 6-0 and Simon Cooper clinched the match with a 6-2,7-5 win in five singles. Jax Leggett (Bogue Chitto) picked up the sixth point for the Wolves with a 6-1, 7-5 win in the six singles. Bucek dropped the two singles match after winning the first set 6-3 but then dropping the second and third sets at 6-4 and 6-1 respectively while Adcock lost the third singles match at 6-2, 6-0.

In the women's match, the Lady Wolves were trailing after the doubles pairings with the lone win coming from Ann-Clark Van (Jayess) and Allie Grace McNeill (Brookhaven) at third doubles at 8-6. Yariange Bello (Caracas, Venezuela) and Munashe Bera (Bulawayo, Zimbabwe) lost the one doubles match at 8-5 while Georgina Labusch (Verl, Germany) and Sophie Sisson (Moss Point) dropped the two doubles at 8-6.

In the singles matches, Bello picked up a 6-4,7-5 win in the one singles spot while Van picked up a five singles win by taking set one 6-2, losing set two, 6-3, and then taking set three, 6-1, with McNeil grabbed a 6-4,6-3 win in six singles for the Lady Wolves four points. However, the Lady Eagles matched the win total with three wins to take the match as Bera dropped the two singles match with identical 6-3 set scores while Labusch fell in the three singles match by scores of 7-5, 6-4 and Sisson dropped the four singles match with two 6-4 sets.

The Wolves are now 1-1 overall and in MACCC play while the Lady Wolves are 0-2 overall and in MACCC play. Both teams return to play in non-conference action against Wallace State on Saturday, February 22. The matches will be played in Meridian starting at 12:30 p.m.
