Tennis Drop Matches Against Wallace State

MERIDIAN – The Co-Lin Women's and Men's Tennis teams returned to action with a neutral site non-conference matchup against Wallace State on Saturday, February 22. In the women's match, the Lady Lions beat the Lady Wolves, 6-3, while in the men's match the Lions beat the Wolves, 8-1.

The Lady Lions held a 2-1 advantage over the Lady Wolves after the doubles matches were done with the lone win for the Lady Wolves coming in the three doubles spot by the pairing of Ann-Clark Van (Jayess) and Allie Grace McNeill (Brookhaven) with an 8-3 win while Yariange Bello (Caracas, Venezuela) and Munashe Bera (Bulawayo, Zimbabwe) dropped a close 8-6 first doubles match and Georgina Labusch (Verl, Germany) and Sophie Sisson (Moss Point) dropped the second doubles match, 8-2.

In the singles matches the two wins for the Lady Wolves came from Allie Grace McNeill in the five doubles match, 6-4, 5-7, 6-3, along with Kayleigh Ann Griffin (Houston) winning the six singles match with identical 6-4 set scores. While Bello dropped the one singles match at, 5-7 and 6-7 (8-6 tiebreaker), LaBusch lost two singles, 3-6 and 1-6, Sisson dropped three singles at 0-6 and 3-6, and Van lost four singles, 3-6 and 1-6.

The lone win for the Wolves came in the doubles matches as Ege Altas (Istanbul, Turkey) and Jake Bucek (Geelong, Australia) won one doubles, 8-5. Tristin Rollins (Brookhaven) and Robert Adcock (Brookhaven) lost two doubles, 8-1, while Simon Cooper (Sumrall) and Mason Brand (Mantee) lost three doubles also 8-1.

The Lions swept the singles matches as Altas dropped one singles, 2-6 and 4-6, Bucek lost two singles with identical 1-6 set scores, Adcock lost three singles, 0-6 and 1-6, Brand lost four singles, 5-7 and 0-6, Cooper dropped five singles, 1-6 and 4-6, and Jax Leggett (Bogue Chitto) lost six singles by identical 0-6 set scores.

The Lady Wolves are now 0-3 overall while the Wolves move to 1-2 overall. Both teams return to conference play with a road match against Itawamba starting at 2 p.m., on Tuesday, February 25.
