
Tennis Sweeps East Central
DECATUR – The Co-Lin Men's and Women's Tennis teams returned to MACCC play with a road match against East Central on Monday, March 3. The teams swept the day as the Wolves beat the Warriors, 9-0, while the Lady Wolves beat the Lady Warriors, 5-4.
In the men's match, the Wolves saw the one doubles team of Ege Altas (Istanbul, Turkey) and Jake Bucek (Geelong, Australia) run away with their match at an 8-1 victory while Robert Adcock (Brookhaven) and Tristin Rollins (Brookhaven) won two doubles, 8-4, with Simon Cooper (Sumrall) and Mason Brand (Mantee) taking three doubles, 8-5.
In the singles matches, Altas carried the momentum over from the doubles victory as he cruised to a one singles win, 6-0 and 6-2, while Bucek also used the momentum in two singles for a win at 6-2 and 4-1 (retired). Adcock took third singles winning set one, 6-2, dropping set two, 4-6, and then winning the tiebreak, 1-0 (6), while Brand won four singles at 7-5 and 7-6 (7-5). Cooper won five singles taking both sets in tiebreaks with 7-6 (5 & 6) scores while Jax Leggett (Bogue Chitto) won six singles, 6-2 and 7-5.
In the women's match, the Lady Wolves held a 2-1 advantage after the doubles matches as Yariange Bello (Caracas, Venezuela) and Munashe Bera (Bulawayo, Zimbabwe) took one doubles, 8-6, while Georgiana Labusch (Verl, Germany) and Sophie Sisson (Moss Point) took two doubles, 8-2. Allie Grace McNeill (Brookhaven) and Ann-Clark Van (Jayess) dropped a tight third doubles match at 6-8.
In singles play, the Lady Wolves and Lady Warriors both took three points leading to the Lady Wolves win as Bello needed three sets to take one singles, 6-7, 6-2, 6-0 while Labusch also needed three sets in her win at three singles, 6-1, 5-7, 6-3. McNeill clinched the victory as she dominated the six singles spot with a 6-3 and 6-2 win. Bera dropped two singles by identical 1-6 set scores while Sisson dropped four singles with identical 4-6 scores with Van dropping a tight fifth singles match 5-7, 6-3, 0-1 (9-11).
Both teams improve to 3-3 overall, 3-2 in MACCC play, and will return to action hosting Gulf Coast on Friday, March 6 at 2 p.m.
