Lady Wolves fall to Holmes in low scoring contest

GOODMAN, Miss. – The Lady Wolves of Copiah-Lincoln Community College out hit the Lady Bulldogs of Holmes 11 to five Tuesday afternoon in game one of a double header, but fell to Holmes 2-1.

Holmes struck first in the bottom of the first inning after a lead off double gave Holmes a base runner. Holmes drove in the run one batter later with a groundball to second.

The Lady Wolves tied the game in the top of the second frame after Taylor Bryant singled to left. Bryant stole second base, and advanced to third after Bailey Root advanced her on a groundout. Alexsundria Thomas drove Bryant in with a fielder's choice to short.

Holmes scored the go ahead run in the bottom of third after a wild pitch allowed a run to score. The remainder of the contest was a pitchers duel as the Lady Wolves were unable to push a run across.

"We outhit them 11-5, and just didn't capitalize on our opportunities," said Co-Lin head coach Allen Kent. "Makenzie Smith did a great job in relief."

Allison Irby got the win for Holmes. She went seven innings, allowing one run on 11 hits, striking out three and walking zero.

Root took the loss for the Lady Wolves as she lasted three innings, allowing three hits and two runs while striking out four.

Co-Lin collected 11 hits. Callie Fortenberry, Abigail Thorton, Bryant, and Morgan Dubose all managed multiple hits for the Lady Wolves, while Fortenberry led with three hits in four at bats.
