Lady Wolves roll past Coahoma 9-1

CLARKSDALE, Miss. – The Lady Wolves of Copiah-Lincoln Community College racked up nine runs on Sunday as Co-Lin improved to 9-7 with a 9-1 win over Coahoma Community College.

"We were sluggish offensively early in this game," said Co-Lin head coach Allen Kent. "But we came around, also a good outing in the circle since the lone run given up was unearned."

Co-Lin pushed one run across for each of the first three innings. A balk in the first inning scored Paige Hulin, an RBI single from Julie Scheuermann scored Abigail Thronton, and Thronton was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the third.

The Lady Wolves stretched the lead to 5-0 in the top of the fourth with an RBI single from Taylor Bryant. Taylor went on to score on a Coahoma error.

The Lady Tigers pushed on across in the bottom of the fourth, but Co-Lin plated four more in the top of the seventh to pull away.

A leadoff double from Bryant got things started in the seventh. Alex Anthony drove her home with a single later in the inning. Anthony scored just two batters later on an error, and Scheuermann brought home Tori Pettit with an RBI single to give the Lady Wolves their 9-1 advantage.

Christian Black got the win for Co-Lin as she surrendered one run on four hits over six innings, striking out six and walking one. Makenzie Smith threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.

Mekayla Hubbard took the loss for Coahoma. She went seven innings, allowing nine runs on seven hits and striking out four.

The Lady Wolves collected seven hits on the day. Bryant and Scheuermann each managed two hits to lead the Lady Wolves at the plate. Bryant led Co-Lin with four stolen bases, as they ran wild on the base paths with nine stolen bases.
