Lady Wolves defeat Southwest 4-2 in third Coca-Cola Challenge game

SUMMIT, Miss. – The Lady Wolves of Copiah-Lincoln Community College outhit the Lady Bears of Southwest Tuesday night 9-2 on their way to a 4-2 victory. Co-Lin plated two runs in the first and one in the fifth and sixth inning to secure the victory. The win moved the Lady Wolves to 11-7 on the year.

"Christian Black came up big for us tonight," said Co-Lin head coach Allen Kent. "Bailey Root sprained her ankle last week and struggled in the first inning, but Christian came in and pretty much shut them out the rest of the way. We also got some timely hits and played solid defense."

The Lady Bears got one back in the bottom half of the first frame after a walk with the bases loaded brought the score to Co-Lin 2, Southwest 1.

It was a pitching duel for the next four innings before Taylor Bryant led off the top of the fifth with a double. Scheuermann got another RBI when she scored Bryant with a single.

Once again Southwest responded. In the bottom of the fifth, an error scored Madison Bates who reached base after being hit by a pitch. Going into the sixth the Lady Wolves led 3-2.

Co-Lin scored the final run of the contest in the top of sixth when Tori Pettit grounded out to first. The grounder allowed Alexsundria Thomas to score from third and stretch the Lady Wolves' lead to 4-2.

Christian Black was credited with the victory for Co-Lin as she surrendered one run on one hit over six and a third innings, striking out five.
