No. 8 ICC sweeps Lady Wolves in Fulton

FULTON, Miss. – The Co-Lin Lady Wolves dropped a pair of games to the No. 8 Itawamba Community College Lady Indians this past weekend to move to the Lady Wolves to 14-13 on the year and 5-7 in division play.

"We had a tough time with their pitcher in game one," said Co-Lin head coach Allen Kent. "She threw really well and we also made too many errors and walked too many."

Game One, L, 8-0

The Lady Wolves could not find their offensive rhythm in game one as Co-Lin managed two hits in the contest.

The Lady Indians plated one run in the bottom of the first and added two more in the bottom of the second to stretch the lead to 3-0.

An error in the third gave ICC another run, and an RBI single in the fourth stretched the lead to 5-0.

ICC got in two more in the fifth, and a Co-Lin error in the bottom of the seventh allowed the game-winning run to cross the plate.

Ballie Springfield was the winning pitcher for ICC. She surrendered zero runs on two hits over six innings, striking out four and walking one.

Makenzie Smith took the loss for the Lady Wolves. She lasted three and a third innings, allowing six hits and five runs while striking out one.

Game Two, L, 4-1

"Mackenzie Gros pitched a great game for us," said Kent. "She didn't deserve to lose, allowing zero earned runs. Again, we misplayed some balls that cost us…you can't do that in our league and expect to win, much less against the No. 8 team in the country."

Morgan Dubose drove in Callie Fortenberry in the top of the first to give the Lady Wolves a 1-0 lead. Fortenberry led off the game with a double.

ICC took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the first with an RBI single and an error. Another error stretched the Lady Indians lead to 3-1 in the bottom of third, and the final run scored in the fifth.

Olivia Burns pitched the Lady Indians to victory. She went six innings, allowing one run on four hits, striking out four and walking one. Shelby Newsom threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.

Mackenzie Gros took the loss for the Lady Wolves. She went six innings, allowing four runs on six hits, striking out two and walking zero.

Callie Fortenberry went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Co-Lin at the plate.
