Gros leads Lady Wolves to nightcap win to avoid sweep

WESSON, Miss. – The Co-Lin Lady Wolves split a Monday afternoon doubleheader with Northwest Community College to move to 17-14 on the year and 8-8 in MACJC play. Co-Lin is on the road on Wednesday, April 4 as the Lady Wolves travel to Decatur, Miss. to take on the Lady Warriors of East Central Community College.

Game One, L, 4-1

Action was slow early in game one until the Rangers plated their first run in the top of the second on an error.

Co-Lin tied the game at one-all in the bottom of the fifth with an RBI single from Alex Anthony. The grounder up the middle scored Alexsundria Thomas who singled earlier in the inning.

The scoring came to halt as neither team scored in the sixth or seventh.

In the extra frame, the Rangers poured in three runs on a fielder's choice, a wild pitch and an RBI single.

Harley Smith was credited with the victory for Northwest Mississippi Community College. She went eight innings, allowing one run on seven hits and striking out three.

Bailey Root took the loss for the Lady Wolves as she surrendered four runs on six hits over seven and two-thirds innings, striking out four.

Anthony led Co-Lin at the plate with two hits in three at bats.

 

Game Two, W, 2-0

Co-Lin's Mackenzie Gros did not allow a single run and gave up just two hits in the nightcap as the Lady Wolves escaped with a 2-0 victory.

The runs came in the bottom of the sixth when Morgan Dubose drew a leadoff walk. Dubose was moved to third on a single from Julie Scheuermann, and the pair were driven home by a double from Bailey Root.

In the top of the seventh Gros gave up one single, but forced three groundouts to secure the win.

Gros got the win in the circle after she surrendered zero runs on two hits over seven innings, striking out three and walking zero.

Brownlee took the loss for Northwest. She surrendered two runs on three hits over six innings, striking out two.

Gros, Scheuermann, and Root each managed one hit for the Lady Wolves to lead the team from the plate.
