Co-Lin softball continues to roll

WESSON, Miss. – The Lady Wolves of Copiah-Lincoln Community College moved to 6-0 on the year after pouring in 18 runs and surrendering none in a pair of 9-0 wins over Mississippi Delta and Spoon River. The Lady Wolves are back in action tomorrow, February 16 as they host Baton Rouge Community College and Spoon River in Wesson. Game one is set for 11 a.m.

The Lady Wolves got things started in the bottom of the second when Co-Lin pushed across three runs. Callie Fortenberry drove in Tori Pettit for the first run of the contest. Delaine McMillan and Fortenberry both scored later in the inning on errors to put the Lady Wolves up 3-0 going into the third.

In the bottom of the third, the Lady Wolves scored two more after another error plated Julie Scheuermann. April Lynn got an RBI later in the inning after a sac fly plated Marlee Poole who reached on a single earlier in the frame.

The Lady Wolves closed the game out in the bottom of the fifth with the run-rule victory, 9-0. Tori Pettit hit an RBI single followed by another from Carly Polk. Pettit and Amber Brinson came in across to close out the game on a Mississippi Delta fielding error.

Co-Lin racked up ten hits in the game. Fortenberry and Poole each managed two hits to lead the Lady Wolves.

Mackenzie Gros was the winning pitcher for Co-Lin. She lasted three and a third innings, allowing one hit and zero runs while striking out five. Ward threw one and two-thirds innings in relief out of the bullpen.

The Lady Wolves kept the momentum rolling in game two as they cruised to another 9-0 victory. Co-Lin scored early and often as Scheuermann grounded out, but pushed Katelyn Hayman across who led off the game with a single.

Co-Lin stretched that lead to 2-0 in the second after Lynn drove in McMillan from third with a ground out. McMillan started the second with a triple to deep right field.

Another three runs came Co-Lin's way in the bottom of the third after Hannah Walls crossed the plate on yet another ground out, this time from Pettit. Harmoni Ashley and Poole scored later in the third on a Spoon River error to pull the lead to 5-0.

Co-Lin got another four in the bottom of the fifth after an error, a hit batter, and some walks loaded the bases. A double from Ky'Albri Washington plated two, and a single from Kelsey Mobley rounded out the scoring after two came home.

Ward got the win for the Lady Wolves after throwing four innings. She gave up four hits, zero runs, zero walks, and struck out six.

Walls led Co-Lin at the plate after going 2-for-2, while Washington and Mobley led the team with two RBIs each.
