No. 10 Lady Wolves lose two in Meridian
MERIDIAN, Miss. – The No. 10 Copiah-Lincoln Community College Lady Wolves dropped a pair of MACJC contests on Wednesday as the Meridian Community College Lady Eagles won 2-1 and 4-2. The losses move the Lady Wolves to 19-8 overall and to 8-6 in MACJC play. Meridian improved to 16-12, 9-7. Co-Lin is back on the road on Friday, April 11 as the Lady Wolves travel to Senatobia to take on the Northwest Rangers. Games have been rescheduled for 2 and 4 p.m. at Senatobia City Park.
Game One
Game one was a low-scoring affair as the Lady Wolves posted three hits to Meridian's seven.
The Lady Eagles pushed in their two runs in the bottom of the third on an RBI single.
Co-Lin would not get on the board until the top of the seventh as Julie Scheuermann drove in Carly Polk, who was running for Ky'Albri Washington. Washington led off the frame with a single to right.
The score was Co-Lin's only run of the game as Meridian took the opener 2-1.
Kaytlon Ward took the loss for Co-Lin in the circle. She allowed seven hits and two runs over six innings, striking out six and walking one.
Katelyn Hayman joined Scheuermann and Washington as the only Lady Wolves with hits.
Game Two
The nightcap was another close game as Meridian escaped with a 4-2 win. The teams combined for 11 hits with six for Co-Lin and five for the Lady Eagles.
Meridian got the momentum early with a solo homer in the bottom of the first, but Delaine McMillan evened the game back up in the top of the third with a long-ball of her own to center field.
The Lady Eagles answered in the bottom of the frame as Kelsey Patterson hit her second solo shot of the game, followed by yet another solo homer, this time from Alyssa Branyan. The two shots put Meridian on top 3-1.
An error gave Meridian another run in the bottom of the fourth to stretch the lead to 4-1.
Makenzie Smith got one back for the Lady Wolves as she got into the home run action with a solo bomb to lead off the top the seventh. Unfortunately, the run would be Co-Lin's last as Meridian hung on for the win.
Mackenzie Gros took the loss for the Lady Wolves after getting the start. She lasted two innings, allowing four hits and three runs while striking out three and walking one. Smith came in for relief after two. She lasted four innings, allowing one hit and one run while striking out two and walking four.
McMillan led Co-Lin with two hits. The freshman posted one RBI, along with Smith.
