Explosive hitting leads Co-Lin to sweep over Delta

WESSON, Miss. – It was all Co-Lin on Wednesday night as the Lady Wolves ran away with two run-rule victories against Mississippi Delta Community College. The wins moved the Lady Wolves to 23-10, 12-8, and keep Co-Lin in the hunt for the MACJC playoffs. The Lady Wolves are back in action next Wednesday, April 27 as Co-Lin travels to Poplarville to take on Pearl River at 3 and 5 p.m. 

Game One

Tori Pettit got the scoring started in game one as the Lady Wolves utilized active bats. Pettit drove in Hannah Walls in the bottom of the second with a line drive down the third base line to take a 1-0 lead.

Co-Lin poured in on the Lady Trojans in the bottom of the third with RBI singles from Marley Poole and another Pettit. Delaine McMillan also drove in Walls with a sacrifice fly, while Poole scored on an error, which stretched the lead to 5-0.

The Lady Wolves recorded three-up, three-down innings in the top of the fourth and fifth innings to maintain the lead. In the bottom of the fifth Ky'Albri Washington got on base with a single before McMillan followed with a single of her own. Amber Brinson drove in the two runners on a double to left before rounding the bases on a throwing error to secure the 8-0 run-rule victory.

Several Lady Wolves got in on the hitting action with Walls and Pettit leading the way with two hits each. Pettit and Brinson both drove in two runs.

Kaytlon Ward shut down Miss Delta from the circle, throwing an abbreviated complete game shutout. The freshman surrendered just three hits.

Game Two

The Lady Wolves kept the impressive hitting rolling into game two as Co-Lin racked up 10 hits in the fiving inning contest.

Walls drove in the first run of the nightcap in the bottom of the first with a hard groundball that scored Callie Fortenberry who reached earlier on a double. An error later in the frame scored Walls making it 2-0 in favor of the Lady Wolves going into the second.

Washington led off the bottom of the third with a single and was immediately brought home as Pettit ripped a triple. RBI singles from McMillan, Poole, and Walls grew Co-Lin's advantage to 7-0 in the third, before an error pushed the lead to 8-0.

Co-Lin's final run came in the bottom of the fourth as Harmoni Ashley checked in to bat. Ashley took a cut at the first pitch and cranked a solo, leadoff homer. The shot pushed the lead to 9-0.

Delta got their first run of the day in the top of the fifth off a solo homer from Hannah Higdon.

Co-Lin collected 10 hits in the nightcap with Walls leading the team with two.

Mackenzie Gros got the start and the complete game win in the circle as the sophomore gave up one run on two hits striking out three.
