Lady Wolves fall to Pearl River in twin bill

POPLARVILLE, Miss. – The Lady Wolves of Copiah-Lincoln Community College dropped a pair of MACJC games last night to Pearl River on the road, 2-1 and 5-2. The losses move Co-Lin to 23-12 overall and to 12-10 in league play. The results put Co-Lin in eighth place in the state, three games up on the No. 9 team, PRCC. Co-Lin is on the road this Saturday, April 27 as the Lady Wolves make the long trip to Booneville to face Northeast (30-12, 15-7). Games are slated for 2 and 4 p.m. starts. Game One

The Lady Wolves struggled at the plate in the opener as the team managed just four hits in the 2-1 loss.

An RBI single from PRCC put the Lady Wildcats on the board in the bottom of the first.

Another RBI single in the bottom of the fifth grew Pearl River's lead to 2-0. A bright spot for the Lady Wolves came in the top of the seventh. Julie Scheuermann led off the frame with a single and was brought home off a line-drive single from Amber Brinson. Unfortunately, it proved to be Co-Lin's only run of the game as PRCC escaped the late game rally with a 2-1 win.

Kaytlon Ward took the loss for Co-Lin as she allowed eight hits and two runs over six innings, striking out two and walking zero.

Marley Poole joined Brinson and Scheuermann as the only Co-Lin players with hits.

Game Two

Pearl River took an early lead, which the Lady Wolves could not overcome down the stretch in the nightcap.

An RBI double in the bottom of the second put PRCC in the lead 2-0.

Co-Lin immediately cut that lead in half in the top of the third with a sacrifice fly from Katelyn Hayman. The shot to center plated Brinson who led off the inning with a double.

The Lady Wildcats had a big inning in the bottom of the fifth with a pair of home runs, a solo and a two-run shot. The big swings put PRCC on top 5-1.

Hayman responded once again for the Lady Wolves. The freshman led off the top of the sixth with a solo homer of her own off the first pitch to cut the lead to 5-2, but that was all she wrote for the Lady Wolves as the score held for the final inning and a half.

Makenzie Smith took the loss for Co-Lin as she got the nod in the circle. She lasted one and two-thirds innings, allowing three hits and two runs. Mackenzie Gros and Ward both saw action in the circle. Gros threw two and two-thirds innings, allowing five hits and three runs, while Ward lasted one and two-thirds innings scattering two hits and no runs. Both relief pitchers fanned two Lady Wildcats each.

Hayman and Hannah Walls led the Lady Wolves with two hits each, while Hayman drove in both runs.
