Brabham's walk-off lifts Co-Lin over No. 16 LSU-E

WESSON, Mississippi – Sophomore Carlon Brabham hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the Co-Lin Lady Wolves a 7-6 come from behind win over the No. 16 ranked LSU-Eunice Bengals in game one of a doubleheader.

"I was very pleased with our effort tonight," said Co-Lin head coach Meleah Howard. "The girls never quit and that's something I love to see. We hit the ball well and scored plenty of runs like we are supposed to. Our pitchers did a great job also. We need to clean it up on defense, but I feel good that everything will come together as the season progresses. This is an exciting group to watch."

Sophomore Carlon Brabham's walk-off two-run RBI double to centerfield in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the Lady Wolves the 7-6 win.

After scoreless first and second innings, the Lady Bengals plated two runs in the top of the third inning to take 2-0 lead. Co-Lin plated a run on an Abigail Carter RBI single.

LSU-E scored three runs in the top of the fourth inning aided by a Olivia Hennen two-run home run over the right field wall as the Lady Bengals took a 5-1 lead. In the bottom of the fourth inning, Co-Lin's Bela Dekovic led off with a solo home run. Shelbi Maxwell reached on an error, Molly Davis was hit by a pitch, and Madi Miller hit a bunt single to load the bases. Madalyn Wilkinson hit a single to score Maxwell. With two outs, Carter smashed a two-RBI double to centerfield to score Miller and Wilkinson to tie the game at 5-all.

In the top of the fifth, Katelyn Courville walked, stole second base scored on an RBI single by Sydnei Simon to give LSU-E a 6-5 lead.

In the bottom of the seventh, Davis reached on a bunt single. Miller reached base on an error. Wilkinson tied the game at 6-all with an RBI single. Brabham RBI double off the wall to score the winning run.

At the plate for the Lady Wolves, Dekovic had a home run and a double. Brabham and Carter doubled and singled.  Wilkinson added a pair of singles. Adding support with a single apiece were Miller, Blanchard, and Davis.

For LSU-E, Hennon led the way with a home run and a single. Madalynn Leal added a double and a single. Simon, Rylie Candella, Ashlyn Roach, and Katelyn Courville added a single apiece.

Freshman Cera Blanchard threw the complete game for the Lady Wolves. She allowed 7 hits, struck out 5, walked 7 and had 6 earned runs.

Reliver Kinsley Ashworth absorbed the loss for LSU-E. She allowed9 hits, struck out 1, walked 1 and had 4 earned runs in 3.1 innings of work. Starter Cendall Barton worked 3 innings striking out 1, walking 3, allowing 2 hits and 2 earned runs.

The Lady Wolves will be back in action on Wednesday, Feb. 10, when they travel to Baton Rouge to take on the BRCC Bears. The doubleheader is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
