LSU-Eunice holds on for a 6-5 win over the Lady Wolves

WESSON, Mississippi – In the second game of the doubleheader, the LSU-Eunice Lady Bengals came back to take game two 6-5.

"I was very pleased with our effort tonight," said Co-Lin head coach Meleah Howard. "The girls never quit and that's something I love to see. We hit the ball well and scored plenty of runs like we are supposed to. Our pitchers did a great job also. We need to clean it up on defense, but I feel good that everything will come together as the season progresses. This is an exciting group to watch."

The Lady Bengals jumped out a 1-0 lead in the top of the first on a solo home run by Olivia Hennen, her second home run of the day. LSU-E added another run aided by a Co-Lin error in the second to go up 2-0.

Co-Lin got on the board as Abigail Carter hit a solo shot to right field.

The Lady Bengals scored three runs in the top of the third aided by two Co-Lin errors to take a 5-1 lead.  In the bottom of the inning, Madi Miller led off the inning with a stand-up double moved to third on a sacrifice flyout by Madalyn Wilkinson. Carlon Brabham's RBI single to right field plated Miller. Brabham moved to second on a passed ball. Carter drew a walk. Bela Dekovic smashed an RBI double to left centerfield cut the lead to 5-3.

LSU-E pushed their lead to 6-3 in the top of the fourth on a Rylie Candella RBI single.

Co-Lin loaded the bases in the bottom of the fourth inning. Brabham led off with a double to left field, Carter drew a walk, and Dekovic singled to load the bases. But the Lady Wolves were unable to scratch a run across the plate.

In the bottom of the sixth with two outs Brabham doubled off the wall to score Wilkinson who singled. Carter reached on an error and Dekovic reached on an error by the shortstop that plated Wilkinson.

Leading the way at the plate for the Lady Wolves was Brabham with 2 doubles and a single. Dekovic doubled and singled. Maxwell added a pair of singles. Carter hit her first home run of the season. Miller doubled. Adding support with a single apiece were Wilkinson and Davis.

For the Lady Bengals, Karli Fontenot had 3 singles. Madalynn Leal added a pair of singles. Hennon hit her second home run of the day. Adding support with a single apiece were Candella and Gracie King.

Sophomore Bella Luckey absorbed the loss for Co-Lin. She allowed 6 runs (2 earned) on 8 hits, struck out 3 and walked 3 in 7 innings of work.

Picking up the win for LSU-E was Sydnei Simon. She threw a complete game allowing 5 runs on 11 hits, striking out 6 and walking 1.

The Lady Wolves will be back in action on Wednesday, Feb. 10, when they travel to Baton Rouge to take on the BRCC Bears. The doubleheader is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
