Carter’s home run lifts Co-Lin over Holmes

WESSON– Abigail Carter's solo home run in the bottom of the fifth inning proved to be the difference as the No. 3 Co-Lin Lady Wolves swept the Holmes Lady Bulldogs 2-1 in game one and 7-3 in game 2.  

GAME 1

The Lady Wolves (15-1, 10-0) took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning. Madi Miller's (Brookhaven/Brookhaven High School) RBI single scored Cera Blanchard (Metairie, LA/De La Salle High School).

In the fifth inning, Co-Lin increased their lead to 2-0 on Abigail Carter's (Mendenhall/Simpson Academy) solo home run to left field.

Holmes plated a run in the top of the sixth inning. But Co-Lin's Blanchard was able to shut down the Lady Bulldogs.

Blanchard (8-0) tossed the complete game allowing one run on five hits striking out 10.

Kelsie Travis absorbed the loss giving up two runs on nine hits and striking out one.

Carlon Brabham (Amite, LA/Oak Forest Academy) led the Lady Wolves with a pair of singles. Carter homered. Miller, Shelby Maxwell (Wesson/Wesson Attendance Center), Madalyn Wilkinson (Madison/Germantown High School), Molly Johnson (Jackson/Northwest Rankin High School), Blanchard and Molly Davis (Philadelphia/Leake Academy).

GAME 2

Holmes scored two runs in the top of the inning courtesy of two Co-Lin errors. The Lady Wolves scored four runs in the bottom half of the inning. Carter's sacrifice fly allowed Maxwell to tag up and score from third. Wilkinson doubled to score Brabham who singled. Blanchard's RBI single scored Wilkinson. Bela Dekovic (Belle Chasse, LA/Belle Chasse High School) doubled to right field scored Blanchard and put the Lady Wolves up 4-2.

In the bottom of the third, Brabham reached base on an error by the shortstop. Carter launched her second home run of the day, a two-run shot to center field that increased the Co-Lin lead to 6-2. Wilkinson's inside the park home run gave the Lady Wolves the 7-2 lead.

The Lady Bulldogs added a run in the top of the seventh inning on Julianna Ingram's solo home run.

Bella Luckey (Mendenhall/Simpson Academy) earned the win giving up three runs on eight hits, striking out three and walking one in seven innings.

Travis lost her second game of the day. She allowed four runs on four hits. Malita Chaffier relieved Travis in the third inning. She allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits.
