No. 6 Lady Wolves sweep Mississippi Delta

MOORHEAD – The No. 6 ranked Co-Lin Lady Wolves (19-3, 14-2) swept a doubleheader from the Mississippi Delta Lady Trojans 11-1 and 8-1.

GAME 1

Madi Miller (Brookhaven/Brookhaven High School) got things started in the first inning as she reached on a bunt single and then stole second base. She advanced to third on Shelbi Maxwell's (Wesson/Wesson High School) ground out and scored on Carlon Brabham's (Amite, LA/Oak Forest Academy) ground out to put the Lady Wolves up 1-0.

In the top of the second inning, Cera Blanchard (Metairie, LA/De La Salle High School) and Madalyn Wilkinson (Madison/Germantown High School) drew back-to-back walks. The runners advanced a base on Bela Dekovic's (Belle Chasse, LA/Belle Chasse High School) fly ball to center field. Johnna Norman (Brookhaven/Loyd Star High School) hit her first home run of the year, a three-run blast to right field to put the Lady Wolves up 4-0. Karly Leake (Bogue Chitto/Bogue Chitto High School) and Miller hit back-to-back singles. Maxwell would pick up her second RBI of the game on a ground out that scored Leake and gave the Lady Wolves a 5-0 lead.

The Lady Wolves would add two more runs in the fifth. Brabham reached on an error by the shortstop. Abigail Carter (Mendenhall/Simpson Academy) drew a walk. Pinch runner Faith Ashley (Brandon/Pisgah High School), in for Brabham, advanced to second on a passed ball, stole third and scored on an error. Julianna Johnson (Monticello/Lawrence County High School), pinch runner for Carter, stole second and scored on Banchard's ground out to put the Lady Wolves up 7-0.

In the sixth inning, Dekovic led off with a single to left. Norman reached on an error by the centerfielder. Leah Beth Luckey (Mendenhall/Simpson Academy) pinch runner for Dekovic, advanced to second on the error. Miller's fielder's choice scored Luckey. Maxwell's sacrifice plated pinch runner Molly Johnson (Jackson/Northwest Rankin High School) to give the Lady Wolves a 10-0 lead. Co-Lin's final run came on a Brabham RBI double to center.

The lone Mississippi Delta run came on a Morgan Bigbee RBI double.

Blanchard picked up her tenth win of the year. She gave up one hit, struck out nine and walked two. Alli Grace Allbritton relieved Blanchard in the seventh inning. She allowed one earned run on one hit and walked one.

Alexandrea Johnson absorbed the loss. She allowed 11 runs (eight earned) on eight hits and walked four.

At the plate for the Lady Wolves, Miller had a pair of singles and an RBI. Brabham doubled and had two RBIs. Maxwell had a pair of RBIs. Norman doubled and had three RBIs. Adding support with a single apiece were Carter, Dekovic and Leake.

For Mississippi Delta, Bigbee doubled and Layne Tedder singled.

GAME 2

The Lady Wolves collected 17 hits in game two led Brabham who went 4-for-4 with four RBIs.

Miller led off the first inning with a triple. Maxwell's RBI single put the Lady Wolves on top 1-0.

In the third, Miller singled, stole second, advanced to third on an error. Brabham collected an RBI single to put Co-Lin up 2-0.

The Lady Trojans scored their only run in the fourth inning. Bigbee doubled and scored in Tedder's single to right.

Co-Lin added another run in the fifth. Maxwell singled, stole second and scored on Brabham's single to left.

In the top of the sixth, Wilkinson led off the inning with a solo home run to left to give the Lady Wolves a 4-1 lead. Norman, Cade and Miller singled to load the bases. Brabham's two-RBI single gave Co-Lin a 6-1 lead. Maxwell scored on Carter's ground ball putting the Lady Wolves up 7-1.

Co-Lin added their final run in the seventh. Leah Beth Luckey and Jackson hit back-to-back singles and advanced to second and third on Leake's fielder choice. Luckey scored on an error by the second baseman.

Winning pitcher was sophomore Bella Luckey (Mendenhall/Simpson Academy). Luckey (9-1) allowed one earned run, scattered four hits, struck out three, and walked two in seven innings of work.

For the Lady Wolves, Wilkinson had a home run and a pair of singles and an RBI. Miller had a triple and a pair of singles. Maxwell collected a pair of singles. Adding support with a single were Leah Beth Luckey, Norman, Baleigh Jackson (Bogue Chitto/Bogue Chitto High School), Leake and Malori Cade (Brookhaven/Loyd Star High School).

For the Lady Trojans, Bigbee doubled. Tedder, Reilly Kate Lack and Gracie Parsons collected singles.
