Cade, Luckey lead Lady Wolves to sweep of Northeast

WESSON – Co-Lin freshman Malori Cade 's (Brookhaven/Loyd Star High School) RBI single scored pinch runner Julianna Johnson (Monticello/Lawrence County High School) to give the No. 5 ranked Co-Lin Lady Wolves a 1-0 victory over the Northeast Mississippi Lady Tigers in game one. Sophomore Bella Luckey (Mendenhall/Simpson Academy) tossed a two-hit shutout to give the Lady Wolves a 3-0 win over the Lady Tigers in game 2.

GAME 1

With one out in the bottom of the ninth, pitcher Cera Blanchard (Metairie, LA/De La Salle High School) drew a walk. Johnson was inserted as a pinch runner for Blanchard. Mallory Johnson (Jackson/Northwest Rankin High School) singled to left field. Cade's single to right field scored Johnson from second base and gave the Lady Wolves a 1-0.win.

Blanchard (13-1) picked up the win for the Lady Wolves. She pitched the shout out scattering six hits, striking out five and walking one in nine innings of work.

Cassidy Duskin took the loss for Northeast. She allowed one earned run on six hits struck out two and walked two in 8.2 innings.  

At the plate for Co-Lin, Shelbi Maxwell (Wesson/Wesson High School) collected two hits. Carlon Brabham (Amite, LA/Oak Forest Academy), Blanchard, Johnson and Cade.

For the Lady Tigers, Duskin had a pair of singles. Collecting a hit apiece were Briley Pitt, Caroline Clark, Faith Fontenot and Taylor King.

 

GAME 2

Luckey (11-2) tossed the complete game striking out four and only walking two.

The Lady Wolves scratch a run across in the bottom of the fourth inning. Madalyn Wilkinson (Madison/Germantown High School) reached on an error. Blanchard singled and Wilkinson advanced to third on the throw. Johnson reached on an error to load the bases. Baileigh Jackson (Bogue Chitto/Bogue Chitto High School) grounded into a fielder's choice allowing Wilkinson to score giving the Lady Wolves a 1-0 leave.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, Maxwell singled. Brabham hit her seventh home run of the year, a two-run shot over the center field wall to extend the Lady Wolves lead to 3-0.

Keegan Hubbard absorbed the loss for Northeast. She gave up three runs (two earned) on nine hits, struck out one and walked one in 4.2 innings of work. Caroline Clark entered the game in relief in the fifth inning. Clark walked one in 1.1 innings.

Leading the Lady Wolves at the plate was Brabham with a home run and a single and Bradford with a pair of singles. Adding support with a single apiece were Maxwell, Carter, Johnson, Leah Beth Luckey, and Wilkinson.

For the Lady Tigers, Hannah Mihorn and Demi Lindsey collected only two hits.
