No. 6 Lady Wolves lose heartbreakers at No. 4 Gulf Coast 

PERKINSTON – It was what you would expect between two Top Ten teams. The No. 4 ranked Mississippi Gulf Coast Lady Bulldogs came out on top sweeping the doubleheader from the No. 6 Co-Lin Lady Wolves 5-4 and 9-8.  

GAME 1

KK Agner's 2-RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning gave the Lady Bulldogs the 5-4 win. 

Gulf Coast scored first taking a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second courtesy of two Co-Lin errors. 

The Lady Wolves would get on the board in the top of the third. Madi Miller (Brookhaven/Brookhaven High School) led off the inning with a single to right. Carlon Brabham (Amite, LA/Oak Forest High School) hit a home run over the left field fence to cut the Gulf Coast lead to 3-2.

With two outs in the top of the seventh, Shelbi Maxwell (Wesson/Wesson High School) drew a walk. Brabham delivered her second home run of the day over the left field wall to give the Lady Wolves a 4-3 lead. 

The Lady Wolves committed four errors in the game. 

Freshman pitcher Cera Blanchard (Metairie, LA/De La Salle High School) suffered her second loss of the season. She gave up five runs (three earned) on seven hits, struck out six and walked four in 6.1 innings of work.

Emaleigh Coates toss a complete game giving up four earned runs, five hits, struck out seven and walked five. 

Leading Co-Lin at the plate was Brabham who went 2-for-4 including two home runs and four RBIs. Maxwell had a pair of singles. Miller had a single.

For Gulf Coast, Rakeya Travis had three hits. Adding support with a hit apiece were Alexis Laughlin, Agner, Hannah Herrington and Brannan.

            

GAME 2

Game two was just as dramatic as game one. Co-Lin took an 8-4 lead in the top of the seventh inning and looked to have the game well in hand going into the bottom of the inning. Kristian Jones singled to lead off the inning. With one out, Agner sent a ball over the left field wall to cut the Lady Wolves lead to 8-6. Back-to-back-to-back singles by Briana Shores, Aislynn Andrews and Breanna Green and a Co-Lin error allowed the Lady Bulldogs tie the game at 8-8. Sarah Brannan drew a walk and advanced to second on a ground ball fielder's choice. Alexis Laughlin's RBI single to center drove in the winning run.

Gulf Coast took an early 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. 

The Lady Wolves would scratch a run in the top of the fourth inning as Brabham hit her third home run of the day over the right field fence.

Co-Lin would tie the game at 3-3 in the top of the fifth. Karly Leake (Bogue Chitto/Bogue Chitto High School) reached on an error, stole second and advanced to third on a passed ball. Miller and Brabham both walked to load the bases. Madalyn Wilkinson (Madison/Germantown High School) smashed a double to centerfield driving in Leake and Miller to tie the game.

The Lady Bulldogs regained the lead in the bottom of the sixth. Aislynn Andrews scored on Caroline Moore's ground out. 

In the top of the seventh, Blanchard, Maxwell and Miller singled to load the bases. Brabham walked to advance Leake who re-entered the game for Blanchard to tie the game at 4-4. Wilkinson grounded into a fielder's choice as Maxwell scored. Malori Cade's (Brookhaven/Loyd Star High School) 3-run home run put the Lady Wolves on top 8-4.

Bella Luckey (Mendenhall/Simpson Academy) took the loss for Co-Lin. She

allowed nine earned runs, struck out two and walked four in 6.2 innings.

Anna Avant was the winning pitcher. She struck out one in .2 innings. Starter Hannah Herrington tossed six innings allowed six runs (four earned), struck out one and walked two. Andrea Morgan pitched .1 inning giving up two earned runs on two hits and walked one.

Brabham led the Lady Wolves at the plate with a home run and a single for two RBIs. Cade homered and singled for three RBIs. Adding support with a hit apiece were Maxwell, Miller, Wilkinson, Molly Johnson (Jackson/Northwest Rankin High School) and Blanchard.

For Gulf Coast, Laughlin was 4-for-5. Andrews and Agner had three singles apiece. Jones had a pair of hits.  Brianna Shores, Breanna Green and Brannan had a hit apiece.
