No. 5 Lady Wolves split with Northwest 

SENATOBIA – The No. 5 Co-Lin Lady Wolves and the Northwest Lady Rangers split a doubleheader this afternoon. Northwest took game one 7-4. The Lady Wolves bounced back to take game two 6-2.

NJCAA Player of the Week and MACCC Player of the Week Carlon Brabham continued her hot hitting streak going 4-for-6 with three home runs and a single for five RBIs on the day.

GAME 1

The Lady Rangers used a six run fifth inning to defeat the Lady Wolves 7-4.

Co-Lin took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the third inning courtesy of a pair of Northwest errors. With one out, Shelbi Maxwell (Wesson/Wesson High School) reached on an error by the shortstop. Madi Miller (Brookhaven/Brookhaven High School) reached on an error by the third baseman allowing Maxwell to advance to third. Brabham hit a 2-run RBI single to left field.

The Lady Wolves added to their lead in the top of the fourth, Cera Blanchard (Metairie, LA/De La Salle High School) drew a lead-off walk. Molly Johnson (Jackson/Northwest Rankin High School) followed with a single to left field. Bela Dekovic (Belle Chasse, LA/Belle Chasse High School) hit an RBI single to center that allowed Blanchard to score giving the Lady Wolves a 3-0 lead.

Northwest took advantage of a pair of Co-Lin walks and a hit batsman to take a 6-3 lead in the bottom of the fifth. The Lady Rangers added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth. 

Co-Lin added a run in the top of the seventh inning on Brabham's solo home run. 

Meagan Allen picked up the win for Northwest. She allowed three runs (one earned) on five hits, struck out seven and walked two. 

Blanchard (13-3) suffered her third loss of the season for the Lady Wolves. She gave up seven runs (six earned) on eight hits, struck out five and walked four in six innings of work.

Brabham was 2-for-3 with a home run and a single for three RBIs. Madalyn Wilkinson (Madison/Germantown High School), Blanchard, Johnson and Dekovic had a single apiece.

For Northwest, Brower and Helms had a pair of hits. Adding support with a hit apiece were Laila Armstrong, Saige Koczka, Molly Harris and Oakley Laughter.

            

GAME 2

Brabham hit her second home run of the day to give the Lady Wolves a 1-0 lead.

Northwest answered with a run in the bottom half of the inning courtesy of a Co-Lin error. 

In the top of the third, the Lady Wolves broke the 1-1 tie as Brabham hit her third home run of the day to put Co-Lin up 2-1. 

The Lady Wolves added to their lead in the top of the fourth on back-to-back home runs by Blanchard and Johnson.

Harris's solo home run in the bottom of the fourth closed the Co-Lin lead to 4-2. 

Co-Lin added two insurance runs in the top of the seventh. Wilkinson led off the with a single. Blanchard walked. Johnson's sacrifice bunt moved the runners to second and third. Pinch hitter Baileigh Jackson's (Bogue Chitto/Bogue Chitto High School) RBI single to right field plated Wilkinson. Dekovic's single allowed pinch runner Leah Beth Luckey (Mendenhall/Simpson Academy) to score giving the Lady Wolves a 6-2 lead. 

Bella Luckey (Mendenhall/Simpson Academy) was able to shut down the Lady Rangers in the bottom of  half of the seventh to preserve the win. Luckey picked up the win for Co-Lin. She allowed two runs (one earned), scattered six hits, struck out three and walked two in seven innings.

Peterson absorbed the loss for the Lady Rangers. She allowed two earned runs on four hits and walked one in three innings. Allen pitched .1 inning giving up two earned runs on three hits and walked one. Koczka tossed the final 3.2 innings. She gave up two earned runs on six hits, struck out two and walked two.

Co-Lin had 13 hits for the game led by Brabham with two home runs for two RBIs. Blanchard hit a home run and a single. Abigail Carter and Dekovic had a double and a single. Maxwell tripled. Johnson homered. Miller, Wilkinson Baileigh Jackson (Bogue Chitto/Bogue Chitto High School) added a single.

For Northwest, Armstrong, Koczka, Brower, Harris, Haleigh Buchanan and Meredith Owen hit safely.
