Blanchard throws two-hit shutout to lead Co-Lin past Pearl River

FULTON – Freshman pitcher Cera Blanchard threw a two-hit complete game shutout to lead the No. 9 ranked Co-Lin Lady Wolves to a 2-0 win over the Pearl River Lady Wildcats in the first round of the Mississippi Association of Community College Conference (MACCC) State Softball Tournament in Fulton. Blanchard (Metairie, LA/De La Salle High School) struck out eight and walked three.

The Lady Wolves broke the scoreless tie in the bottom of the fifth inning. Abigail Carter (Mendenhall/Simpson Academy) reach on an error by the shortstop. Madalyn Wilkinson (Madison/Germantown High School) drilled a single to right. Pinch runner Faith Ashley (Brandon/Pisgah High School) advanced to third and Wilkinson advanced to second on the throw. Molly Johnson's (Jackson/Northwest Rankin High School) RBI single plated Ashley. Molly Davis' (Philadelphia/Leake Academy) bunt scored Wilkinson to put the Lady Wolves up 2-0.

Hannah Embry absorbed the loss for Pearl River. She allowed two runs (one earned) scattered six hits, struck out 10 and walked three.

Hitting safely for Co-Lin were Madi Miller (Brookhaven/Brookhaven High School), Carlon Brabham (Amite, LA/Oak Forest Academy), Wilkinson, Blanchard, Johnson and Baileigh Jackson (Bogue Chitto/Bogue Chitto High School).

For the Lady Wildcats, Erin Daughtery and Promise Shanks had a single apiece.
