Top seeded Itawamba tops Co-Lin the MACCC State Tournament

FULTON – After a three-hour rain delay, the No. 1 seeded Itawamba Lady Indians defeated the No. 4 seeded Co-Lin Lady Wolves 3-1 in the second round of the Mississippi Association of Community College Conference (MACCC) State Softball Tournament in Fulton. Co-Lin (28-8) will play the No. 7 seed Northwest Lady Rangers at 2:30 p.m. in the loser's bracket.  

Itawanba broke the scoreless tie in top of the third inning. With one out, Katie Boatner drew a walk and stole second. McKenzie Patterson reached on an Co-Lin error and Boatner scored.

The Lady Wolves tied the game in the bottom of the fourth inning. Carlon Brabham (Amite, LA/Oak Forest Academy) singled. Cera Blanchard (Metairie, LA/De La Salle High School) singled. Abigail Carter's (Mendenhall/Simpson Academy) RBI single to center plated Brabham and tied the game.

Itawamba answered with a run in the top of the fifth. Katie Rutledge smashed a double to center that scored Boatner and put the Lady Indians up 2-1. Itawamba added an insurance when Ivy Watts doubled home Rutledge.

Emily Robinson picked up the win for the Lady Indians. She allowed one earned run on seven hits, struck out nine and walked two in seven innings.

Bella Luckey (Mendenhall/Simpson Academy) took the loss for the Lady Wolves. She gae up three runs (two earned), scattered four hits, struck out seven and walked three in seven innings of work.  

At the plate for Co-Lin, Madi Miller (Brookhaven/Brookhaven High School) doubled. Baileigh Jackson (Bogue Chitto/Bogue Chitto High School) had a pair of singles. Hitting safely were Brabham, Blanchard and Carter.

For the Lady Indians, Ivy Watts had a single and a double. Katie Rutledge doubled. Boatner added a single.
