Co-Lin eliminated by Itawamba at MACCC state tournament

FULTON – The No. 2 ranked Itawamba Lady Indians eliminated the Co-Lin Lady Wolves 9-1 in six innings in the Mississippi Association of Community College Conference (MACCC) State Softball Tournament. Co-Lin (30-9) earned a spot in next week's NJCAA Region 23 Tournament hosted by LSU-Eunice.

Itawamba took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning on a Brianna Posey solo home run. The Lady Indians added another run in the bottom of the third inning to go up 2-0.

The Lady Wolves loaded the bases in the top of the fourth inning on back singles by Madalyn Wilkinson (Madison/Georgetown High School), Carlon Brabham (Amite, LA/Oak Forest Academy) and Abigail Carter (Mendenhall/Simpson Academy). Cera Blanchard (Metairie, LA/De La Salle High School) grounded into a fielder's choice, Wilkinson was thrown out at the plate. Molly Johnson's (Jackson/Northwest Rankin High School) grounder plated Brabham cutting the Itawamba lead to 2-1.

Itawamba would score six runs in the bottom half of the fourth inning to go up 8-1. They added a single run in the bottom of the sixth inning to win by the run rule.

Emily Robinson picked up the win for Itawamba. She allowed one earned run, seven hits, struck out three and walked one.

Co-Lin starter Bella Luckey (Mendenhall/Simpson Academy) took the loss. She allowed eight runs (four earned), seven hits and one walk in 3.2 innings. Blanchard relieved Luckey in the fourth inning. She gave up one hit, struck out one and walked one in 1.1 inning. Freshman Alli Grace Albritton (Summit/Parklane Academy) tossed the final 0.1 inning giving up one run and one hit.

At the plate for Co-Lin, Miller, Wilkinson, Brabham, Carter, Blanchard, Maxwell and Davis all hit safely.

For Itawamba, Posey had a home run and a double. Katie Boatner had a pair of singles. Kara Hays and Ivy Watts doubled. Adding support were Madison Jenkins, Hannah Henry and Connor Stevens.

 

NEXT UP | The Lady Wolves will play Itawamba in the first round of the NJCAA Region 23 Tournament at 12 p.m. on Thursday at LSU-Eunice.
