Lady Wolves Sweep Stars

WESSON – The Co-Lin Softball team returned to action hosting Lansing on Wednesday, March 6. The Lady Wolves swept the Stars taking game one, 8-0, and game two, 5-4.

GAME ONE

The Lady Wolves jumped out to a big lead in the bottom of the first after plating five runs. Madison Moak (Brookhaven) got the offense going with a leadoff double, and then scored on an RBI single by Kynlee Madere (Paulina, LA). Abby Grace Richardson then drew a walk to put two runners on with no outs. After a groundout advanced the runners, Madere then scored on an RBI single by Zykeria Cole (Magee) while a sacrifice fly by Leia Phillips (Philadelphia) scored Richardson giving the Lady Wolves a 3-0 lead. Cole then scored on an RBI single by Carson Hughey (Brookhaven) who then stole second and third on back-to-back plays and later scored on an RBI single by Olivia Banes (Pelahatchie) extending the lead to 5-0.

The Lady Wolves then added three runs in the second inning as Moak hit a leadoff single and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Madere. Moak then scored on an RBI double by Richardson. The final two runs for the Lady Wolves were plated as Cole stepped up and crushed a 1-0 pitch over the centerfield fence for a two-run home run extending the Lady Wolves lead to 8-0.

The Lady Wolves then allowed a combined two hits and two walks from the third through fifth innings to secure the 8-0 victory.

Madison Moak and Zykeria Cole led the way for the Lady Wolves offensively going 2-for-2 at the plate while Kynlee Madere, Abby Grace Richardson, Carson Hughey, Olivia Banes, and Laney Waguespack (Bayou Gauche, LA) had one hit each. Cole led the team in RBIs with three while Madere, Richardson, Hughey, Banes, and Leia Phillips had one RBI each.

Cara Biswell got the start and improved to 4-1 with two hitless and scoreless innings with one walk and three strikeouts. Karley Rouse (D'Iberville) pitched two innings of relief allowing two hits with one walk while Emily Richarde (Lakeland, TN) pitched one inning of relief with one walk and one strikeout.

GAME TWO

After a scoreless first inning, the Lady Wolves broke through in a big way scoring four runs to take the lead. Kinley Ainsworth (Brandon), Zykeria Cole, and Leia Phillips drew three straight walks to load the bases to start the inning. Ainsworth and Cole both scored as Carson Hughey reached base on an error while Emeri Warren (Sebastopol) drew a walk to load the bases for a second time. After Phillips was forced out at home on a fielder's choice by Olivia Banes, Madison Moak drew a walk while Kylnee Madere hit a sacrifice fly scoring Hughey and Warren giving the Lady Wolves a 4-0 lead.

The Stars then cut the lead in half in the top of the third with a two-run home run making the score, 4-2. The Lady Wolves added a single run in the fourth as Moak hit a leadoff single, took second on a wild pitch, stole third, and then later scored on an RBI groundout by Richardson making the score, 5-2.

The Stars added a solo home run in the fifth to cut the lead down to 5-3. A solo home run in the top of the sixth knocked Keegan McCorkle (Tyronza, AR) out of the circle as the Lady Wolves turned to Taylor Efferson (Holden, LA) to finish the game. Efferson allowed just one hit and a hit-by-pitch in the sixth and seventh innings to seal the 5-4 game two win and sweep for the Lady Wolves.

Madison Moak, Kynlee Madere, Kinley Ainsworth, Zykeria Cole, Leia Phillips, and Olivia Banes had one hit each for the Lady Wolves. Carson Hughey led the team in RBIs with two while Moak, Madere, and Abby Grace Richardson had one RBI each.

Keegan McCorkle got the start and win for the Lady Wolves improving to 3-0 on the season. McCorkle pitched five innings allowing four runs, all earned, on three hits with two walks, and three strikeouts. Taylor Efferson got her first career save in a relief appearance pitching two innings while allowing one hit with one strikeout.

Co-Lin is now 10-1 overall and will return to action on the road in Niceville, Florida on Monday, March 11. The Lady Wolves will face off against the Golden Eagles of Rock Valley College at 12:30 p.m., and the No. 2 Raiders of Northwest Florida State at 3 p.m., at the softball complex on the campus of Northwest Florida State.
