Lady Wolves Shutout Tigers in Region 23 Opener

WESSON – The No. 1 overall seeded Co-Lin Softball team opened their hosting duties of the Region 23 Softball Semifinal Tournament with a game against the No. 8 seeded Northeast Mississippi. The No. 2 Lady Wolves shutout the Tigers, 6-0, to advance to the winner's bracket in the tournament.

After a scoreless first inning, the Lady Wolves broke through in the bottom of the second with four runs as Emeri Warren (Sebastopol) led off the inning being hit-by-pitch. Olivia Banes (Pelahatchie) and Carson Hughey (Brookhaven) drew back-to-back walks to load the bases. Madison Moak (Brookhaven) then cleared the bases as Warren, Banes, and Hughey scored on a three-RBI double to give the Lady Wolves a 3-0 lead. After Moak advanced to third on a wild pitch, she then scored on an RBI single by Abby Grace Richardson increasing the Lady Wolves lead to 4-0.

The Lady Wolves added two more runs in the bottom of the third as Warren reached base on an error with one out on the board to get the offense going. Banes then stepped up and crushed a 2-2 pitch over the left field fence for a two-run home run, her first of the season, increasing the Lady Wolves lead to 6-0.

The Lady Wolves then allowed just three combined baserunners via two hits and one walk over the final four innings as the Tigers had just one baserunner advance past second during that time on a two-out triple in the top of the fourth. The Tigers were also retired in order in the top of the seventh as the Lady Wolves secured the 6-0 shutout victory.

The Lady Wolves had three hits as Madison Moak, AG Richardson, and Olivia Banes had one hit each. Moak led the Lady Wolves in RBIs with three while Banes had two and Richardson had one.

Cara Biswell (Brandon) pitched a complete game in the win and improved to 17-3 while allowing just three hits with one walk and six strikeouts.

Co-Lin improves to 40-4 overall and will return to action against the No. 5 seeded LSU-Eunice on Saturday, May 4. First pitch between the No. 2 Lady Wolves and the No. 11 Lady Bengals is set for 1 p.m., at Lady Wolves Field in Wesson.
