
Lady Wolves Pick Up Win in Gulf Shores Classic
GULF SHORES, Ala. – The Co-Lin Softball team hit the road for two days while playing at the Gulf Shores Classic on Friday, February 14, and Saturday, February 15. The Wolves held leads in all four games played this weekend but ultimately coming away with just one win as they dropped games against Enterprise State, 5-4, and Southern Union, 3-2, on Friday followed by starting Saturday with a 4-3 loss against Northwest Florida State but rebounding for a 6-2 win against Gulf Coast State.
ENTERPRISE STATE 5 CO-LIN 4
After a scoreless first inning, the Lady Wolves scored one run in the top of the second to take the lead as Morgan Chisolm (Madison) hit a two-out single to get the offense going. Chisolm then took second on wild pitch and later scored on an RBI single by Kynlee Madere (Paulina, LA) making the score, 1-0.
The Lady Wolves added two more runs to their lead in the top of the third as Brelie Phillips (Conehatta) hit a leadoff single to start the inning. Phillips then advanced to second as Olivia Banes (Pelahatchie) reached base on an error to put two runners on with no outs. Later in the inning, Phillips scored on a sacrifice fly by Avery Williams (Olive Branch) while Banes scored on an RBI single Emeri Warren (Sebastopol) increasing the lead to 3-0.
The Lady Wolves added another run in the top of the fifth as Phillips hit another leadoff single and then scored on an RBI double by Banes making the score, 4-0. Enterprise State looked to cut into the lead in the bottom of the sixth as they loaded the bases with one out, but the Lady Wolves got a strikeout followed by a pop out to leave the bases loaded and maintain their 4-0 lead. However, the bottom of the seventh was the difference in the game as Enterprise State hit three straight singles to load the bases and then scored a run on an RBI groundout to cut the lead down to 4-1 while a pop out then brought the Lady Wolves to within one out of the win. However, Enterprise State tied the game with a three-run home run then followed with a runner reaching on an error and ended the game with a walk-off single to get the 5-4 win.
The Lady Wolves totaled seven hits as Brelie Phillips and Kynlee Madere led the way with two hits apiece while Olivia Banes, Emeri Warren, and Morgan Chisolm had one hit each. Banes, Warren, and Avery Williams had one RBI each for the Lady Wolves.
Emily Richarde (Lakeland, TN) got the start for the Lady Wolves and earned a no decision while pitching 6.1 innings and allowing four runs, all earned, on seven hits with four walks and three strikeouts. Keegan McCorkle (Tyronza, AR) took the loss (1-1) while pitching 0.2 innings of relief and allowing one earned run on one hit.
SOUTHERN UNION 3 CO-LIN 2
Once again, the Lady Wolves broke a scoreless tie with a single run in the bottom of the second inning as Stella Roberts (Raymond) drew a leadoff walk to start the inning. Roberts then advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Abby Burnette (Brookhaven) and scored as Kynlee Madere reached base on an error to give the Lady Wolves a 1-0 lead.
The Lady Wolves added their second run in the bottom of the third as Olivia Banes hit a leadoff double, advanced to third on groundout, and then scored on a sacrifice fly by Taylor Efferson (Holden, LA) increasing the lead to 2-0. Southern Union then responded with three runs in the top of the fourth to take a 3-2 lead. The Lady Wolves then got just two combined baserunners in the final four innings, none in the sixth and seventh, as Southern Union sealed the 3-2 win.
Olivia Banes and Avery Williams had the only hits for the Lady Wolves with one each while Efferson had the lone RBI.
Keegan McCorkle got the start and fell to 1-2 with the loss while pitching four innings and allowing three runs, all earned, on four hits with three walks and two strikeouts. Emma Kate Fimiano (Petal) pitched three innings of scoreless relief allowing three hits with three strikeouts.
NORTHWEST FLORIDA STATE 4 CO-LIN 3
The Lady Wolves started this game quickly as Brelie Phillips took one swing of the bat and crushed a 1-2 pitch over the left field fence for a leadoff solo home run to take a 1-0 lead. However, the Lady Raiders responded with two runs in the bottom of the second as they went hit-by-pitch, walk, hit-by-pitch, two-RBI single to take a 2-1 lead.
The Lady Raiders then extended their lead in the bottom of the third as they loaded the bases with no outs and scored a run on an RBI groundout making the score, 3-1. The Lady Wolves cut the lead down to one with a run in the top of the fifth as Morgan Chisolm hit a leadoff single and advanced to second on an error on the play. Later in the inning, Chisolm scored on a sacrifice fly by Kynlee Madere making the score, 3-2. The Lady Wovles then tied the game as Noelle Laiche (Gonzales, LA) drew a leadoff walk to start the top of the sixth. Later in the inning, Laiche scored on a two-out, RBI double by Taylor Efferson to tie the game at 3-3.
However, the Lady Raiders took advantage of back-to-back errors by the Lady Wolves in the bottom of the sixth to score a run and take a 4-3 lead. The Lady Wolves then got the tying run into scoring position as Madere hit a two-out double, but a strikeout ended the game to secure the 4-3 win for Northwest Florida.
The Lady Wolves totaled six hits as Morgan Chisolm led the way with two while Brelie Phillips, Noelle Laiche, Taylor Efferson, and Kynlee Madere had one hit each. Phillips, Efferson, and Madere had one RBI each.
Addison Lindley (Madison) got the start for the Lady Wolves and earned a no decision while pitching one inning and allowing two runs, both earned, on one hit with three walks. Taylor Efferson picked up the loss (0-1) in relief while pitching five innings and allowing two runs, one earned, on two hits with one walk.
CO-LIN 6 GULF COAST STATE 2
For the fourth straight game, the Lady Wolves got on the board first, this time with a pair of runs in the top of the first as Olivia Banes hit a single with one out to get the offense going. Later in the inning, Avery Williams took one swing of the bat and crushed 3-2 pitch over the centerfield fence for a two-run home run to give the Lady Wolves a 2-0 lead.
The Lady Wolves added a single run in the top of the third as once again Banes got the offense going with a one-out single and then advanced to second as Taylor Efferson drew a walk to put two runners on with one out. After the Lady Wolves pulled a double steal, Banes scored on an RBI groundout by Avery Williams increasing the lead to 3-0.
The Lady Wolves added another run in the top of the fourth as Noelle Laiche hit a leadoff single, took second on a groundout, advanced to third on a wild pitch, and scored on an RBI groundout by Emilie Williams (Summit) making the score, 4-0. The Commodores then responded by cutting the lead in half with two runs off the strength of a leadoff solo home run and then taking advantage of two errors by the Lady Wolves making the score, 4-2. The Commodores then looked to cut into the lead again in the bottom of the sixth with back-to-back two-out singles, but a lineout ended the potential scoring threat while maintaining a 4-2 lead for the Lady Wolves.
The Lady Wolves then added their final two runs in the top of the seventh as Abby Burnette drew a leadoff walk while Kynlee Madere reached on an error to put two runners on with no outs. Both runners then advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Brelie Phillips while Burnette then scored on a sacrifice fly by Banes. Madere then scored on a two-out RBI double by Efferson making the score 6-2. The Commodores then got a two-out walk in the bottom of the seventh but a lineout ended the game sealing the 6-2 win for the Lady Wolves.

Co-Lin is now 3-3 overall and will return to action playing in the Hinds JUCO Classic on Friday, February 21, and Saturday, February 22. The first game for the Lady Wolves will be against Southeast Arkansas with first pitch at Noon at Sports Force Park in Vicksburg on Friday, February 21.
