Lady Wolves Sweep Lady Bears

BATON ROUGE, La. – The Co-Lin Softball team hit the road for a doubleheader against Baton Rouge on Tuesday, February 25. The Lady Wolves swept the Lady Bears taking game one, 10-2, and game two, 2-0.

GAME ONE

The Lady Wolves got on the board first as they scored two runs in the top of the first with Olivia Banes (Pelahatchie) drawing a one-out walk to get the offense started. Taylor Efferson (Holden, LA) then stepped up, took one swing of the bat, and smashed a 2-0 pitch over the left field fence for a two-run home run to give the Lady Wolves a 2-0 lead.

The Lady Wolves then increased their lead with three runs in the top of the second as Kynlee Madere (Paulina, LA) led off the inning with a single. Emeri Warren (Sebastopol) then followed with a single while a two-base error on the play allowed Madere to score and Warren to advance to third. Warren then scored on an RBI single by Noelle Laiche (Gonzales, LA) making the score, 4-0. Laiche then stole second, advanced to third after tagging up on a flyout, and then scored on a sacrifice fly by Brelie Phillips (Conehatta) to increase the lead to 5-0.

The Lady Bears scored their two runs in the bottom of the second to cut the lead down to 5-2. After the next two innings were scoreless, the Lady Wolves exploded for five runs in the top of the fifth as Efferson drew a walk to start the inning while Stella Roberts (Raymond) was then brought in as a pinch runner. Later in the inning, Roberts advanced to second as Morgan Chisolm (Madison) reached on an error to put two runners on with one out. Roberts then scored as Madere reached on an error while Chisolm scored on an RBI bunt single making the score, 7-2. Later in the inning, Madere scored on an RBI single by Carson Hughey while Warren and Hughey both scored on a two-RBI double by Phillips to increase the score to 10-2.

The Lady Bears then got two runners on with one out in the top of the fifth, but a double play ended the inning and sealed the 10-2 victory for the Lady Wolves.

The Lady Wolves totaled eight hits as Kynlee Madere and Emeri Warren had two hits each while Brelie Phillips, Taylor Efferson, Noelle Laiche, and Carson Hughey had one hit apiece. Phillips led the Lady Wolves in RBIs with three while Efferson had two with Warren, Laiche, and Hughey had one RBI each.

Taylor Efferson got the start and improved to 3-1 with the complete game win allowing two unearned runs on five hits with two walks.

GAME TWO

The second game of the day was a back-and-forth pitcher's duel as both teams were retired in order in the first inning. In the top of the second, the Lady Wolves looked to break the scoreless tie as they had two runners on with one out, but a strikeout followed by a groundout brought the inning to an end with no scoring done.

The scoreless game continued as both teams limited the baserunners until the Lady Wolves once again got two runners on with one out in the top of the sixth. However, a flyout followed by a groundout brought the inning to an end with no scoring done. After a scoreless bottom of the sixth, the Lady Wolves broke through with a pair of runs in the top of the seventh as Stella Roberts and Abby Burnette (Brookhaven) hit back-to-back singles to start the inning. Both runners then advanced on a groundout by Carson Hughey while Brelie Phillips then delivered a one-out, two-RBI double scoring Roberts and Burnette to give the Lady Wolves a 2-0 lead.

The Lady Bears were then retired in order in the bottom of the seventh to secure the game two victory and sweep for the Lady Wolves.

The Lady Wolves totaled eight hits as Taylor Efferson and Avery Williams had two hits each while Brelie Phillips, Stella Roberts, Abby Burnett, and Carson Hughey had one hit each. Phillips led the Lady Wolves in RBIs with two.

Emily Richarde (Lakeland, TN) got the start and improved to 3-0 with the complete game win allowing two hits with two walks and four strikeouts.

Co-Lin improved to 9-3 overall and will return to action hosting Lansing on Monday, March 3. First pitch between the Lady Stars and the Lady Wolves is set for 1:00 p.m.
