Lady Wolves Sweep Lady Tigers

WESSON – The Co-Lin Softball team returned home for their MACCC home opener hosting Coahoma on Tuesday, March 11. The Lady Wolves swept the doubleheader with a perfect game one win, 27-0, and then allowed just one hit in a 26-0 win in game two.

GAME ONE

The Lady Wolves got the scoring started with three runs in the bottom of the first as Brelie Phillips (Conehatta) reached on an error and advanced to third on the play. Olivia Banes (Pelahatchie) then stepped up and hit a ball down the right field line that resulted in an inside-the-park home run to give the Lady Wolves a 2-0 lead. Later in the inning, Avery Williams (Olive Branch) reached on a dropped third strike, stole second, advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Kynlee Madere (Paulina, LA), and then scored on an RBI-single by Emeri Warren (Sebastopol) increasing the lead to 3-0.

The Lady Wolves then exploded for 13 runs in the bottom of the second as Carson Hughey (Brookhaven) hit the second inside-the-park home run of the game scoring Emilie Williams (Summit) on the play. Avery Williams had an RBI-double and an RBI-single, Warren had a two-RBI single and a two-RBI double, while Banes and Hughey had RBI singles in the inning with Taylor Efferson (Holden, LA) also collecting an RBI in the inning. The Lady Wolves held a 16-0 lead after the end of the inning.

The Lady Wolves added four runs in the third as Emilie Williams was hit-by-pitch while Hughey was then walked. After both runners advanced on a wild pitch, Emilie Williams scored on a passed ball while Hughey then scored on an RBI groundout by Abby Burnette (Brookhaven). Banes then stepped to the plate, took one swing of the bat, and crushed a 1-1 pitch over the left field fence for a solo home run. Keegan McCorkle (Tyronza, AR) then reached on an error and advanced to second on the play. McCorkle advanced to third on a single by Anna Grace Rice (Greenwood) and then scored on a sacrifice fly by Madere to increase the lead to 20-0.

The Lady Wolves then scored their final seven runs in the bottom of the fourth as Burnette, Emma Kate Fimiano (Petal), Madere, Warren, Morgan Chisolm (Madison), and Emily Richarde (Lakeland, TN) all had RBI singles in the inning with Hughey adding an RBI on a sacrifice fly. The Lady Wolves held a 27-0 lead after the fourth inning and then retired the Lady Tigers in order in the top of the fifth to secure the 27-0 victory.

The Lady Wolves totaled 24 hits as Emeri Warren led the team with four hits while Olivia Banes and Kylnee Madere had three hits each with Avery Williams, Anna Grace Rice, Morgan Chisolm, and Carson Hughey adding two hits apiece. Brelie Phillips, Abby Burnette, Addison Lindley (Madison), Emma Kate Fimiano, Emilie Williams, and Emily Richarde had one hit each. Warren led the Lady Wolves in RBIs with six while Banes and Hughey had four RBIs each, Avery Williams had three RBIs, Burnette and Madere had two RBIs each with Fimiano, Chisolm, and Richarde adding one RBI apiece.

The Lady Wolves threw a combined perfect game as Emma Kate Fimiano got the start and improved to 1-0 throwing two innings with one strikeout while Maddie West (Gonzales, LA) pitched two innings with four strikeouts and Noelle Laiche (Gonzales, LA) made her season debut retiring all three batters she faced in one inning of work.

GAME TWO

The Lady Wolves got the scoring started with eight runs in the bottom of the first as Brelie Phillips hit a leadoff triple and then scored on a passed ball to make the score, 1-0. The Lady Wolves sent 11 batters to the plate as Avery Williams collected an RBI-double, Kynlee Madere had an RBI triple, Phillips had a two-RBI triple, while Emeri Warren, Abby Burnette, and Olivia Banes had an RBI-single each. The Lady Wolves held an 8-0 lead at the end of the inning.

The Lady Wolves added six runs in the bottom of the second as they once again sent 11 batters to the plate. Avery Williams started the offense with a one-out double and then scored on an RBI-triple by Madere. Warren had an RBI-double while Burnette and Avery Williams had an RBI-single each with two runs scoring while Banes reached on an error. The Lady Wolves pushed their lead to 14-0 at the end of the inning.

The Lady Wolves plated five runs in the bottom of the third as Carson Hughey hit a one-out single, advanced to third on a double by Stella Roberts (Raymond), and then scored as Burnette reached on an error. Roberts then scored on an RBI-double by Laiche while Burnette advanced to third on the play. Burnette scored on an RBI-single by Phillips while Laiche advanced to third on the play as the score stood at 17-0. Laice then scored on an RBI-double by Banes while Phillips then scored on an RBI-single by Addison Lindley making the score, 19-0.

The final seven runs for the Lady Wolves came in the bottom of the fourth as the inning was highlighted by a three-run no doubter home run by Banes while Emma Kate Fimiano, Hughey, and Keegan McCorkle recorded RBI-singles in the inning. The Lady Wolves also scored a run on an error in the inning while the lead stood at 26-0 after the fourth. The lone hit of the day came in the top of the fifth for the Tigers as they got a one-out single, but a strikeout and a groundout secured the victory and sweep for the Lady Wolves.

The Lady Wolves totaled 29 hits as Avery Williams led the way with four hits while Brelie Phillips, Olivia Banes, and Carson Hughey had three hits apiece with Taylor Efferson, Addison Lindley, Kynlee Madere, Emeri Warren, Stella Roberts, Abby Burnette, and Noelle Laiche had two hits each. Keegan McCorkle and Emma Kate Fimiano had one hit each. Banes led the Lady Wolves in RbIs with five, Phillips had four RBIs while Avery Williams, Madere, Warren, and Burnette had two RBIs apiece with Lindley, Hughey, McCorkle, Fimiano, and Laiche adding one RBI each.

Addison Lindley got her first collegiate win to move to 1-0 on the season with the complete game effort allowing one hit with nine strikeouts.

Co-Lin is now 17-3 overall, 4-0 in MACCC play, and will return to action on the road against Holmes on Sunday, March 16. First pitch between the Lady Wolves and the Lady Bulldogs is set for 2 p.m. in Goodman.
