Lady Wolves Sweep Lady Bulldogs

GOODMAN – The Co-Lin Softball team returned to MACCC action on the road against Holmes on Sunday, March 16. The Lady Wolves swept the doubleheader against the Lady Bulldogs taking game one, 15-0, and game two, 4-1.

GAME ONE

The Lady Wolves scored in every inning of game one starting with a single run in the top of the first as Brelie Phillips (Conehatta) hit a leadoff triple and then scored on a sacrifice fly by Olivia Banes (Pelahatchie) to give the Lady Wolves a 1-0 lead.

The Lady Wolves then increased the lead with three runs in the top of the second as Kynlee Madere (Paulina, LA) reached on an error while Emeri Warren (Sebastopol) followed by drawing a walk to put two runners on with no outs. Later in the inning, Abby Burnette (Brookhaven) reached on an error to load the bases with no outs while Carson Hughey (Brookhaven) delivered an RBI-single scoring Madere. Warren and Burnette then scored on a two-RBI single by Phillips to increase the lead to 4-0.

The Lady Wolves then added a pair of runs in the top of the third as Madere hit a one-out single to get the offense started. Warren then reached on a fielder's choice as Madere was forced out on the play while Morgan Chisolm (Madison) then hit an RBI-double scoring Warren. Chisolm then scored on an RBI single by Burnette to increase the lead to 6-0.

The Lady Wolves tacked on five more runs in the top of the fourth as Banes hit a leadoff single and advanced to second on an error on the play. Taylor Efferson (Holden, LA) then stepped up to the plate, took one swing of the bat and crushed the first pitch of the at-bat over the left field fence for a two-run home run increasing the lead to 8-0. Avery Williams (Olive Branch) and Madere then followed with back-to-back singles to put two runners on. Warren and Chisolm then reached on back-to-back fielder's choice plays to keep two runners on with two outs for the Lady Wolves. Warren then scored on an RBI single by Burnette while Chisolm and Burnette advanced on the play. Chisolma and Burnette then scored as Hughey reached on an error to incrase the lead to 11-0.

The Lady Wolves added four runs to their lead in the top of the fifth as Banes hit a leadoff single and then scored on an RBI-double by Efferson making the score, 12-0. Noelle Laiche (Gonzales, LA) and Emilie Williams (Summit) drew walks in pinch-hit appearances to load the bases with two outs for the Lady Wolves. Efferson, Laiche, and Williams then all scored on a three-RBI pinch-hit double by Keegan McCorkle (Tyronza, AR) to extend the lead to 15-0. The Lady Bulldogs were then retired in order in the bottom of the fifth to secure the victory in game one for the Lady Wolves.

The Lady Wolves totaled 16 hits as Brelie Phillips, Olivia Banes, Taylor Efferson, Kynlee Madere, Abby Burnette, and Carson Hughey had two hits apiece while Avery Williams, Morgan Chisolm, Keegan McCorkle, and Anna Grace Rice (Greenwood) added one hit each. Efferson and McCorkle led the Lady Wolves in RBIs with three each while Phillips and Burnette had two RBIs apiece with Banes, Chisolm, and Hughey adding one RBI each.

Emily Richarde (Lakeland, TN) got the start for the Lady Wolves and improved to 6-0 with the no-hitter performance with three walks and six strikeouts.

GAME TWO

The Lady Wolves scored all four of their runs in the top of the second as Avery Williams hit a leadoff single while Kynlee Madere drew a walk to put two runners on with no outs. After both runners advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Emeri Warren, they then scored on a two-RBI double by Stella Roberts (Raymond) to give the Lady Wolves a 2-0 lead.

Abby Burnette then reached on an error while Roberts scored on the play and Burnette advanced to second. After Burnette advanced to third on a groundout, she scored on a two-out, RBI-double by Brelie Phillips to increase the lead to 4-0.

The Lady Wolves then held off every scoring attempt for the Lady Bulldogs including in the bottom of the sixth when the Lady Bulldogs hit back-to-back singles to start the inning to maintain their lead at 4-0. The lone run for the Lady Bulldogs came on a leadoff solo home run in the bottom of the seventh while the next three batters were retired in order to secure the 4-1 game two win and sweep for the Lady Wolves.

The Lady Wolves totaled three hits in the game as Brelie Phillips, Avery Williams, and Stella Roberts had one hit each. Roberts led the Lady Wolves in RBIs with two while Phillips had one RBI.

Taylor Efferson got the start and improved to 7-1 with the complete game win while allowing one earned run on four hits with one walk and four strikeouts.

Co-Lin is now 19-3 overall, 6-0 in MACCC and will return to action on the road against Southwest as part of the Coca-Cola Classic on Wednesday, March 18. First pitch between the No. 7 Lady Wolves and the Lady Bears is set for 3 p.m., in Summit.
