Lady Wolves Celebrate Sophomore Day with Sweep

WESSON – The Co-Lin Softball team returned to MACCC action by hosting East Mississippi on Friday, April 4. The Lady Wolves also celebrated Sophomore Day and swept the Lions taking game one, 5-1, and game two 5-0.

GAME ONE

The first game of the day was a scoreless affair through the first three and a half innings as both teams had a combined two baserunners until the Lady Wolves broke through with a single run in the bottom of the fourth. Brelie Phillips (Conehatta) drew a leadoff walk and then advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Olivia Banes (Pelahatchie). Later in the inning, Phillips stole third and then scored on a passed ball to give the Lady Wolves a 1-0 lead.

The Lady Wolves then increased their lead with a single run in the bottom of the fifth as Morgan Chisolm (Madison) hit a two-out double to extend the inning and then scored on an RBI pinch-hit single by Emilie Williams (Summit) making the lead, 2-0.

The Lady Wolves then added three runs in the bottom of the sixth as Banes got the offense going with a one-out double. Taylor Efferson (Holden, LA) then stepped up to the plate, took one swing of the bat, and crushed the first pitch she saw for a two-run home run, her seventh of the season, to give the Lady Wolves a 4-0 lead. Avery Williams (Olive Branch) then followed with a single. Later in the inning, Avery Williams advanced to second on a two-out single by Emeri Warren (Sebastopol) and then scored on an RBI-single by Chisolm increasing the lead to 5-0.

The Lions scored their only run of the game on a one-out solo home run while the Lady Wolves then got a lineout and ended the game with a strikeout to secure the 5-1 victory.

The Lady Wolves totaled seven hits as Morgan Chisolm led the way with two hits while Olivia Banes, Taylor Efferson, Avery Williams, Emeri Warren, and Emilie Williams had one hit each. Efferson led the Lady Wolves in RBIs with two while Chisolm and Emilie Williams had one RBI each.

Emily Richarde (Lakeland, TN) got the start and improved to 12-0 with the complete game win allowing one earned run on two hits with five strikeouts.

GAME TWO

The second game of the day was scoreless through the first two innings despite the Lady Wolves putting two runners on in the bottom of the first and loading the bases in the bottom of the second. The Lions then got back-to-back one-out singles in the top of the third and pushed both runners into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt. However, the Lady Wolves got out of the jam with a groundout to keep the game scoreless.

The game remained scoreless until the Lady Wolves scored two in the bottom of the fifth as Taylor Efferson and Avery Williams were hit-by-pitch in back-to-back at-bats to put two runners on with two outs. After Emma Kate Fimiano was brought in as a pinch runner for Efferson, Kynlee Madere (Paulina, LA) delivered a two-RBI double scoring Fimiano and Avery Williams to give the Lady Wolves a 2-0 lead.

The Lady Wolves then added three runs in the bottom of the sixth as Emilie Williams hit a leadoff single, took second on a sacrifice bunt by Stella Roberts (Raymond), and advanced to third on a groundout by Carson Hughey (Brookhaven). Emilie Williams then scored on a pinch-hit, RBI-double by Keegan McCorkle (Tyronza, AR). Olivia Banes then stepped up, took one swing of the bat, and smashed a 1-2 pitch over the left field fence for a two-run home run, her seventh of the season, to increase the lead to 5-0.

The Lions were then retired in order in the top of the seventh to secure the game two win and sweep for the Lady Wolves.

The Lady Wolves totaled seven hits as Olivia Banes led the way with two while Keegan McCorkle, Taylor Efferson, Kynlee Madere, Emilie Williams, and Carson Hughey had one hit each. Madere and Banes led the Lady Wolves in RBIs with two each while McCorkle had one RBI.

Taylor Efferson got the start and improved to 11-2 with the complete game shutout allowing three hits with six strikeouts.

Co-Lin is now 30-4 overall, 17-1 in MACCC play, and will return to action hosting Pearl River on Tuesday, April 8. The first pitch in the Top-15 matchup between the No. 14 Wildcats and No. 4 Lady Wolves is set for 4 p.m., in Wesson.
