Jones College defeats Lady Wolves

ELLISVILLE, Miss. - The Lady Wolves of Copiah-Lincoln Community College had a strong second half Monday night, but the team was not able to overcome the Lady Bobcats of Jones College as the team fell, 81-56. The game wraps up the first series of MACJC South Division games. The Lady Wolves travel to Poplarville on Thursday, Jan. 30 to face Pearl River, who Co-Lin defeated 88-79 earlier in the year. Tipoff for the contest is set for 5:30 p.m. and fans can keep up with the action by watching live at www.colinathletics.com/watch or listen live at www.colinathletics.com/listen or WMJU 104.3 FM.

"They did a good job putting man-to-man defense on us," said Co-Lin head coach Gwyn Young. "We couldn't get anything going in the first half, you just can't beat anybody shooting a low percentage. We just have to keep on working and trying to get better."

Co-Lin was struck with shooting woes in the opening two quarters of play as the Lady Bobcats built a strong lead early. After the first 10 minutes, the Lady Bobcats led 23 to 7. The Lady Wolves found some rhythm in the second period as the team netted 12 points with big shots from Dashell Davis and Camryn Davis, but once again the Lady Bobcats were on fire as they scored 21. Going into the half the Lady Wolves trailed by 25, 44-19.

The second half was a different story as Co-Lin's offense came to life. Baskets from Cianna Jones, Chardonay Williams, and TaMara Riley helped Co-Lin outpace the Lady Bobcats 21-20 in the third period. The fourth quarter was also tight as both squads traded baskets. Unfortunately, the late offensive push was not enough to overcome the first-half deficit as Jones secured the win, 81-56.

Sha'Quandra Carter led Co-Lin in the scoring column with 16 points after shooting 5-for-9 from the floor. Dashell Davis led the Lady Wolves with nine rebounds and five blocks, while Darien Tubby dished a team-best three assists. Daja Woodard led the Lady Bobcats with 15 points and seven blocks, while SaMiracle Sims added 14. Ebony Gayden came off the bench and led Jones with nine boards.

The Lady Wolves shot 25 percent (15-of-60) from the floor, 13 percent (1-of-8) from three-point range, and 64 percent (25-of-39) from the free-throw line. The Lady Bobcats shot 48 percent (29-of-61) from the floor, 39 percent (7-of-18) from downtown, and 67 percent (16-of-24) from the stripe. Jones outrebounded Co-Lin 46-42.
