Lady Wolves Drop Season Opener

MOBILE – The Co-Lin Women's Basketball team took to the road for their 2021-22 season opener to face off against Bishop State on Thursday, November 4. The Wildcats beat the Lady Wolves by a final of 66-53.

Bishop State held a 14-9 after one quarter of play and extended their lead to 29-20 at halftime with a 15-point second quarter while holding the Lady Wolves to 11. The Lady Wolves outscored Bishop State in the third quarter, 15-12, and cut the lead down to 41-37. Both teams had their highest scoring quarters in the fourth; however, Bishop State outscored the Lady Wolves, 25-18, to seal the 66-53 win.

Sophomore guard Aniya Sanders (Vicksburg) led the Lady Wolves with a double-double of 15 points and ten rebounds while also leading the team in assists with three and shared the team lead in steals with two and had one block. Freshman guard Leilani Lewis (Baton Rouge, La.) shared the team lead in points with 15 paired with four rebounds and the shared team lead in steals with two.

Freshman forward Kiersten Bell (Louisville) had eight points, while sophomore guard Marvia Spann (Madison) added five points on the night. Freshman guards Zykeria Anderson (Edwards) and Tandria Minor (Brandon) had four and three points respectively, while sophomore forward Jakiylah Esco (Ridgeland) added two points, and sophomore guard Jakyra Young (Kosciusko) had one point to round out the scoring for the Lady Wolves.

The Lady Wolves are now 0-1 on the season and will return to action with a road contest against Wallace Community College Selma on Friday, November 5. The action is set to tipoff at 5 p.m.
