Lady Wolves Pick Up First Win

SELMA, Alabama – The Co-Lin Women's Basketball team continued their season opening road trip with a contest against Wallace Community College Selma on Friday, November 5. The Lady Wolves beat the Patriots by a final of 73-65.

The Lady Wolves jumped out to a huge lead in the first quarter outscoring the Patriots, 23-6. The Patriots responded by outscoring the Lady Wolves, 22-20, in the second quarter, but the Lady Wolves retained their lead at 43-28 going into the locker rooms at halftime.

The Patriots came out in the third quarter and once again outscored the Lady Wolves, 20-13, and the Lady Wolves led the game by a score of 56-48. Both teams added 17 points in the fourth quarter as the Lady Wolves secured the 73-65 victory for their first win of the 2021-22 season.

Sophomore guard Aniya Sanders (Vicksburg) led the Lady Wolves with 17 points to go along with five rebounds, one assist, two steals, and one block while sophomore forward Madelynn Webster (Pocahontas) had 14 points with four rebounds, two steals, and two blocks. Freshman guard Tandria Minor (Brandon) had ten points along with a shared team lead in assists and steals with four in each category.

Freshman forward Kiersten Ball (Louisville) had nine points with five rebounds, while sophomore guard Jakyra Young added six points and sophomore guard Marvia Spann and sophomore forward Jakiylah Esco added four points each with Esco also having six rebounds. Freshman guard Leilani Lewis (Baton Rouge, La.) added three points while freshman forward Christina James (Columbia), freshman guard Zykeria Anderson (Edwards), and sophomore guard Jamya Blue (Brandon) added two points apiece. James led the Lady Wolves with seven rebounds.

The Lady Wolves are now 1-1 overall and will return to action with their home opener against Hinds on Monday, November 8. The action on Gwyn Young Court in Mullen Gymnasium at 6 p.m., in Wesson.
