Lady Wolves Breeze by Lady Bulldogs

WESSON – The Co-Lin Women's Basketball team had their home opener of the 2021-22 regular season with a non-conference game against Hinds on Monday, November 9. The Lady Wolves beat the Lady Bulldogs by a final of 79-61.

The Lady Wolves used a strong first quarter performance including a 13-7 scoring run over the first five minutes of the quarter to take a lead that was never given up throughout the contest. The Lady Wolves closed out the quarter with a 10-5 scoring run to extend the lead to 23-12 at the end of the first quarter.

The second quarter saw the teams have streaks of trading baskets as well as scoreless stretches, but the Lady Wolves once again outscored the Lady Bulldogs, 20-11, to increase the lead to 43-23 at halftime.

The third quarter was the lowest scoring quarter for the Lady Wolves as the Lady Bulldogs outscored them, 14-13, to cut the lead to 56-37. The fourth quarter also saw the Lady Bulldogs outscore the Lady Wolves by one point, 24-23, and cut the Lady Wolves lead down to ten points with just over five and a half minutes remaining at 62-52. However, the Lady Wolves used a 17-7 scoring run to close out the quarter and seal the 79-61 victory.

Sophomore guard Aniya Sanders (Vicksburg) once again led the Lady Wolves offense with 15 points and led the team in rebounds with nine along with two assists and two steals. Sophomore forward Madelynn Webster (Pocahontas) added 13 points with five rebounds, two steals, and one block, while sophomore guard Jakrya Young (Kosciusko) had 12 points with three rebounds, three assists, and two steals.

Freshman guard Leilani Lewis (Baton Rouge, La.) added nine points and led the team in steals with five along with two assists and one block. Freshmen guards Tandria Minor (Brandon) and Zykeria Anderson (Edwards) along with freshman forward Kiersten Bell (Louisville) had seven points apiece. Sophomore forward Jakiylah Esco (Ridgeland) added four points, freshman forward Christina James (Columbia) had three points, and sophomore guard Marvia Spann (Madison) added two points to round out the scoring for the Lady Wolves.

The Lady Wolves are now 2-1 overall on the season and will return to action with a road contest against Southern University Shreveport on Thursday, November 11. The action is set to tip-off at 5 p.m.
