Lady Wolves Drop Overtime Contest Against Lady Bears

SUMMIT – The Co-Lin Women's Basketball team faced off against Southwest in non-conference action on Thursday, November 19. The Lady Bears beat the Lady Wolves in a thrilling overtime contest by a final of 57-55.

Both teams struggled scoring in the opening minutes of the contest as the first points were scored by the Lady Wolves with around seven and a half minutes left in the first quarter. The Lady Wolves then finished the quarter by taking a 14-13 lead. However, the second quarter saw the Lady Bears outscore the Lady Wolves, 10-9, to tie the game at 23-23 heading into the locker rooms at halftime.

The Lady Bears carried their momentum into the third quarter as they outscored the Lady Wolves, 13-6, to take a 37-29 lead. The Lady Wolves then had an offensive explosion in the fourth quarter outscoring the Lady Bears, 18-11, but the Lady Bears scored the final two points of the quarter with nearly 30 seconds left and regulation ended with the game tied at 47-47 as the Lady Wolves could not score the winning basket at the buzzer.

In the overtime period, the Lady Bears outscored the Lady Wolves, 10-8, to secure the 57-55 win as the Lady Wolves looked to tie the game at the buzzer but once again narrowly missed the basket.

Sophomore guard Aniya Sanders (Vicksburg) led the Lady Wolves with a double-double of 12 points (shared team lead) and 14 rebounds along with three steals, while freshman guard Tandria Minor (Brandon) shared the team lead in points with 12 paired with four rebounds and two assists.

Sophomore forward Jakiylah Esco (Ridgeland) had eight points with seven rebounds, one steal, and led the team in blocks with two, while sophomore guard Marvia Spann (Madison) and freshman guard Zykeria Anderson (Edwards) had six points apiece. Freshman forward Kiersten Ball (Louisville) and sophomore forward Madelynn Webster (Pocahontas) had four points each, freshman forward Christina James (Columbia) had two points, and freshman guard Leilani Lewis (Baton Rouge, La.) had one point to round out the scoring for the Lady Wolves.

The Lady Wolves are now 4-2 overall and will return to action with a road game against Baton Rouge Community College on Saturday, November 20. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
