Lady Wolves Drop Contest to Baton Rouge

WESSON – The Co-Lin Women's Basketball team returned to action with a home contest against Baton Rouge on Monday, November 29. The Lady Bears beat the Lady Wolves by a final of 53-45.

The Lady Wolves got off to a hot start in the first quarter as they started on a 9-0 run over the opening the five minutes. However, the Lady Bears fought back and responded with a 10-0 scoring run to take a 10-9 lead after the end of the quarter.

The Lady Bears then extended their lead through the second quarter outscoring the Lady Wolves, 9-7, and taking a 19-16 lead into the locker rooms at halftime.

The third quarter belonged to the Lady Wolves showing grit and determination to outscore the Lady Bears, 12-7, and take a 28-26 lead at the end of the quarter. However, the Lady Bears ran away from the Lady Wolves in the fourth quarter outscoring them 27-17 to secure the 53-45 win.

Freshman guard Zykeria Anderson (Edwards) led the Lady Wolves with 14 points paired with four rebounds, one assist, and one steal, while freshman forward Christina James had 12 points to go along with a shared team high six rebounds, and shared the team lead in steals with two.

Sophomore guard Marvia Spann had five points along with the shared team high in rebounds with six and led the team in assists with two. Sophomore guard Jakyra Young (Kosciusko) and freshman guard Tandria Minor (Brandon) added four points while Minor also shared the team lead in rebounds and steals with six and two respectively. Sophomore forwards Madelynn Webster (Pocahontas) and Jakiylah Esco (Ridgeland) along with freshman forward Kiersten Ball (Louisville) added two points each to round out the scoring for the Lady Wolves. Ball and Esco also shared the team lead in rebounds with six apiece, while Esco had the shared team lead in steals with two.

The Lady Wolves are now 5-3 overall and will return to action with the conference opener at home against Southwest on Thursday, December 2. Tip-off at Mullen Gym is scheduled for 6 p.m.
