Lady Wolves Blast Lady Jaguars

WESSON – The Co-Lin Women's Basketball team played host to the Southern University-Shreveport Lady Jaguars on Friday, December 10. A dominant performance on both sides of the ball led to an 86-44 win for the Lady Wolves.

The Lady Wolves used the opening minutes of the first quarter to build a solid 11-8 lead and then closed out the quarter with an 18-5 scoring run to end the quarter with a 29-13 advantage. The Lady Wolves increased the lead in the second quarter adding 21 points to their total while holding the to just 12 points. The Lady Wolves took the 50-25 lead into the locker rooms at halftime.

The third quarter featured more dominance by the Lady Wolves as they went on an 11-1 scoring run over the opening minutes to increase their lead to 61-26 with around five minutes left in the quarter. The Lady Wolves closed the quarter holding a 68-38 lead and then finished out the game outscoring the Lady Jaguars, 18-6, to secure the 86-44 victory.

The Lady Wolves were led by a trio of guards all in double figure scoring marks as freshman Tandria Minor (Brandon) had 23 points with three rebounds, two assists, and three steals and freshman Zykeria Anderson (Edwards) added 21 points with five rebounds and one steal. Sophomore Aniya Sanders (Vicksburg) finished with a double-double of 19 points and ten rebounds (a shared team high) along with a team-leading four steals.

Freshman forward Christina James (Columbia) finished with nine points and the shared team high of rebounds with ten, while sophomore guard Marvia Spann (Madison) had eight points along with a team-leading five assists. Sophomore forwards Madelynn Webster (Pocahontas) and Jakiylah Esco (Ridgeland) along with freshman forward Kiersten Ball (Louisville) finished with two points each to round out the scoring for the Lady Wolves.

The Lady Wolves are now 6-4 overall and will return to action with conference play against East Mississippi on Thursday, January 6. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m., at Keyes T. Currie Coliseum in Scooba.
