Lady Wolves Falter Against Lady Lions

SCOOBA – The Co-Lin Women's Basketball team opened the second half of their season with a road conference game against East Mississippi on Thursday, January 6. The Lady Lions beat the Lady Wolves by a final of 71-65.

The Lady Lions jumped out to an early lead in the opening minutes of the first quarter, but the Lady Wolves battled back and held a one-point lead at 12-11 with just over two minutes left. However, the Lady Lions responded with a 6-1 scoring run to take a 17-13 lead at the end of the quarter.

The second quarter belonged to the Lady Wolves as they went on a 14-4 scoring run to take a 27-21 lead at the midway point. The Lady Lions responded with a scoring run of their own, 10-6, to close out the quarter, but the Lady Wolves held a 33-31 lead going into the locker rooms at halftime.

The third quarter was tightly contested between the two opponents as they traded baskets throughout with the Lady Wolves keeping the lead throughout. However, the Lady Wolves could not make their lead extend past four points, and the Lady Lions ended the quarter trailing the Lady Wolves by one point, 47-46.

The fourth quarter belonged to the Lady Lions as they outscored the Lady Wolves, 25-18, and earned the 71-65 victory.

Sophomore guard Aniya Sanders (Vicksburg) led all scorers with 20 points for the Lady Wolves to go along with three rebounds and team leading four steals. Freshman guard Tandria Minor (Brandon) added ten points on the night along with three rebounds. Sophomore guard Marvia Spann (Madison) and freshman guard Zykeria Anderson (Edwards) added eight points apiece. Spann also had six rebounds with one assist and one steal while Anderson had two rebounds with one assist and one steal.

Freshman forward Christina James (Columbia) added six points and five rebounds. Sophomore forwards Madelynn Webster (Pocahontas) and Jakiylah Esco (Ridgeland) along with freshman forward Kiersten Ball (Louisville) added four points each. Esco also had a team leading nine rebounds while Webster added six rebounds. Freshman guard Leilani Lewis (Baton Rouge, La.) added one point on the night to round out the scoring for the Lady Wolves.

The Lady Wolves are now 6-5 overall and 0-2 in conference play and will return to action with hosting Holmes in conference action on Monday, January 10. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m., at Mullen Gym.
