Lady Wolves Earn Second Conference Win

BOONEVILLE – The Co-Lin Women's Basketball team returned to action with a road contest against Northeast Mississippi on January 20. The Lady Wolves used a second half comeback effort to beat the Lady Tigers, 69-64.

The Lady Wolves struggled in the first quarter as the Lady Tigers jumped out to a 21-8 lead by the end of play. That would be the only quarter that the Lady Tigers outscored the Lady Wolves though as they responded with a 23-19 second quarter and cut the lead down to 40-31 going into the locker room at halftime.

The second half belonged to the Lady Wolves as they outscored the Lady Tigers 23-18 in the third quarter and then held the Lady Tigers to just six points in the fourth while adding 15 and earning the come-from-behind 69-64 win.

Sophomore guard Aniya Sanders (Vicksburg) had a huge night for the Lady Wolves accounting for a double-double of 21 points and 12 rebounds with both marks leading all players in those categories. Sanders also led all players in assists with six to go along with two steals and one block. Freshman guard Zykeria Anderson (Edwards) added 16 points with six rebounds, four assists, and a shared team lead in steals with three.

Sophomore forward Jakiylah Esco (Ridgeland) and sophomore guard Marvia Spann (Madison) added ten points and six rebounds each. Spann also added four assists and shared the team lead in steals with three while Esco led the team in blocks with two. Freshman forwards Kiersten Ball (Louisville) added six points and four rebounds, while sophomore guard Jakyra Young (Kosciusko) had four points and freshman forward Christina James (Columbia) had two points to round out the scoring for the Lady Wolves. Young and James had five rebounds apiece during the game.

Co-Lin improves to 8-6 overall and 2-3 in conference play. The Lady Wolves return to action by hosting Pearl River in conference play on Monday, January 24. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m., at Mullen Gym.
